She doesn’t have a photo to share just yet, but she does have a story.

They were coming up on their two-year anniversary.

Two years.

And yet, somehow, it felt like they had known each other for a lifetime.

She wants to tell us about the beautiful love they shared. The kind of love that makes you feel like you found your person.

But she also wants to be honest about the challenges.

And that’s where she’s wrestling.

How much do I share?
What do I keep private?
Can I tell the truth about our story without dishonoring our love?

That question is part of the story, too.

🎶 What about your frieeeennndssss!! 🎶

I didn’t expect my friendships to change just because I became a widow.

But they did.

People didn’t know how to talk to me.
They didn’t know what to say.
They didn’t know how to support me.
And honestly, some didn’t know how to love me through my grief.

Some wanted me to “get better.”
Some wished me the best and slowly disappeared.
Some decided I had changed and used that as the reason to leave.

Some stopped including me in their lives because they couldn’t relate to me anymore.

And then I started dating… and THAT was a whole different thing. 😂

I definitely still have SOME of my day ones.... 🤜 🤛

But if I’m honest, my widow connections have been some of the relationships that truly pulled through for me.

They understood without needing a whole explanation.
They could sit in the hard stuff with me.
They poured into me just as much as they asked me to pour into them.

Because they GET IT.

And that is exactly why Year One is so needed.

You deserve a space where you don’t have to translate widowhood before you can be understood.

A space to process your pain.
A space to tell the truth.
A space to be supported by women who FINALLY get you.

Meet Tonya. 🤍

Tonya was married to Shawn for 27 years before his passing. She’s a mom of two adult children, a son and a daughter, and has spent more than 20 years helping people find their way home as a Realtor in Philadelphia.

Now, she’s bringing another part of her story to Year One.

Tonya joined this project because she wants to

"share her story and connect with another widow who may be walking through this journey right now."

Because she knows something that every widow needs to hear:

You don't have to do this alone.

Sometimes, the most meaningful thing we can offer another person isn't an answer.

It's simply the reassurance:

“I understand. I've been there. And I'm here.”

That's what we hope Year One will create: a collection of stories that reminds another widow that her experience is seen, her story matters, and she is not alone.

Meet Shirley. 🤍

Shirley is one of the voices joining us for Year One, and when we asked why she wanted to be part of this project, her answer was beautifully simple:

She wants to share her story about her life with her husband.

Forty years of marriage.
A family.
A lifetime of memories.
A love that shaped a life.

And now, she wants to put some of that story into words.

Because sometimes we think our stories have already been told. That there isn't much more to discover, create, heal, or share.

But Shirley reminds us that there is always more story to tell.

There is no expiration date on your story.
No age limit on growth.
And it is never too late to honor the life you've lived and the love you've known.

Alicia is a mom of two, a professional dancer and fitness instructor with more than 25 years in the industry, and a proud New Jersey woman.

But she joined Year One for something deeper.

She wants to talk about the things no one talks about when it comes to widowhood.

The good.
The bad.
The ugly.

The parts that don't always make it into the conversations about grief. The parts that can leave you wondering if anyone else really understands.

And perhaps most importantly, Alicia wants her story to reach someone who needs it.

“If my story can help just one person, then it might have all just been worth it.”

That's the power of this project. We aren't telling one widowhood story. We're creating a collection of voices, experiences, lessons, and truths that might help someone else feel less alone.

Last night was EVERYTHING. ❤️

We laughed. We cried. We told the truth...

We even did a little mini coaching session! 😀

But more than anything, we were grateful to be in a room with people who understand.

We talked about widowhood, about the importance of actually processing what we feel, and about something I believe is SO important:

There is a difference between faking fine and truly learning how to love your life again after loss.

You don't have to pretend the loss didn't change you.
You don't have to pretend you're okay when you're not.
And you don't have to stay stuck in survival mode forever.

You can honor what you've lost AND make room for what comes next.

That's part of what YEAR ONE: A Widow Anthology is about.

It's not just about writing a book. It's about reflection, connection, healing, finding your voice, and discovering what your story has to say now. this is a healing journey, reflection process, community experience, and legacy project.
