27 YEARS. I got clean and sober on January 3rd, 1999 after years of drug and alcohol abuse and many months of suicidal ideations. I’m forever grateful for the life that Alcoholics Anonymous and the 12 steps of recovery have given me. I still go to meetings to remember where I came from and to give back to the place that saved me and made me a productive member of society. For anyone that needs help or wants to learn more, there are thousands of meetings every day in person, on the phone and online, and they don’t cost a dime. Great experience hearing Rashid (Common) speak last night at USC. During the Q&A portion, I was able to share the most important lesson that I’ve learned from him. That lesson being that everyone is important and treat them accordingly. In person, I’ve watched him treat janitors with the exact same respect as he’s treated Dave Chappelle and others that are rich and famous.

I then asked him, since all everyone sees is the success and good things in his life, to share with us a time that he was at a very low point and how he got over it. This video is his response.
