Afrocentric Films Collaborative, is an independently owned media company founded in Oakland, California that offers services in Film Education, Film Promotion and Collaboration, Social Media Marketing & Advertising, as well as Afrocentric Lifestyle Content Branding. Currently AFC is ran as a member owned collaborative that educates, mentors, and matches clients with freelance filmmakers and content creators who provide top-notch services for a fee. AFC's mission is to create positive images and stories concerning people of African descent.

Family connections. 💕

“Rakim’s aunt was Ruth Brown, the R&B star whose hits helped make Atlantic Records “The House That Ruth Built.” She also used to babysit him. 🖤

Her records helped establish the label in the 1950s, decades before her nephew changed hip-hop.

Speaking to NPR in 2018, Rakim remembered watching her get ready for shows.

She would decorate a dress with glue and glitter, then work on her shoes, hat and handbag. By the time she finished, she looked ready for the stage.

He said he learned from watching how she approached her work.

Later, Ruth listened closely to his records. She would point out moments in his delivery that reminded her of jazz musicians.

“My aunt taught me through her actions,” he said.

And she was proud of her nephew.”
