We are excited about our next Fingerboard event this month.

In light of recent actions and statements involving individuals associated with Plies Magazine and USAFBL, we have removed Plies from our upcoming South Florida Fingerboard Meetup sponsors and updated our event materials.

Surf Skate Science and The Lab work closely with kids and families, so this hits especially close to home. Our priority will always be creating a community where ALL people feel safe, respected and protected.

We won’t be sharing or amplifying the details. We simply want our families, sponsors and community to know where we stand.

We appreciate the brands and members of the fingerboarding community who are choosing to put safety, respect and accountability first.

Now, let’s have a great event and keep building the kind of community we all want to be part of. 🤝🛹

THIS is what happens when a community shows up. 🛹❤️ Tonight, Boca’s skate community showed up, spoke up, and shared their passion with respect.

After years of people working toward this skatepark, it was incredible to see skaters, parents, students, grandparents, business owners, professionals, advocates and community members stand together for something they believe in.

There will always be opposition. There will always be misconceptions. But our job isn’t to fight stigma with anger. It’s to challenge it with reality. Different isn’t bad. Skaters deserve a place, too. And the stereotypes people sometimes have about skateboarding simply don’t represent the incredible community we know.

Skateboarding belongs to doctors and business owners. Kids and grandparents. Beginners and lifelong skaters. Artists, engineers, entrepreneurs and families.

Tonight, you showed Boca what this community really looks like. Great job everyone.

You showed what can happen when we trade stereotypes for conversations, show up with respect, and work together toward something bigger than ourselves.

So incredibly proud of the Boca skate community tonight. 🛹

This is more than building a skatepark.

It’s building community. ❤️

Explaining life before iPhones and the internet to kids today is basically our generation’s version of, “When I was your age, I walked five miles to school in the snow… uphill both ways.” 😂

Today was our second Skate Science class of the week with our SW Broward families, and we took it back again to the analog world, talking about how before reels, feeds and instant uploads, skateboarding culture spread through magazines, photos, stories and zines. These mags are what helped skaters discover new tricks, spots and people …and helped shape skateboarding into the culture we know today.

Now our students get to become the creators. This week, they’re designing skateboard zines and exploring Zines for Change through our learning partnership with The Wolfsonian.

Skateboarding. Skateparks. Art. Advocacy.

The A in STEAM is getting extra attention: Art + Analog. 🛹📰🎨

We can’t wait to see what they create.
