Today, we’re checking in with the Class of 2022 to see where the Army has taken them since commissioning! 🇺🇸

First up is CPT Caolinn Safford, who recently graduated from the Logistics Captains Career Course (LCCC) and is now stationed at Eglin AFB alongside her husband, Zach Safford, a 2022 ND Air Force ROTC graduate. Prior to LCCC, CPT Safford spent three years with the 115th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division, at Fort Hood, Texas. During her time there, she served as a Maintenance Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, and Battalion S1.

Newly promoted CPT Carranza just completed a three year assingment in Alaska where he served as a Training Resource Officer, Scout Platoon Leader, and Executive Officer. He just transitioned to the Military Intelligence branch and is currently finishing the Army’s Captains Career Course.

CPT Ugan is coming from Ft Hood where she participated in 2 NTC rotations and a EUCOM rotation. She served as a sapper platoon leader and HHC XO with 8th Engineer Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division. She graduated Sapper Leader Course in December of 2023 and competed in the Best Sapper competition in 2024. She is currently pursuing her masters in Engineering Management before her command time at Ft Bragg.

Recently promoted CPT Hughes is currently serving as an Aide-de-Camp for BG Scarcella - Commanding General of the 78th Training Division based out of JBMDL, NJ. He has supported multiple LSCO annual trainings, including the largest Army Reserve training this past summer - Operation Sentinel Justice (OSJ) @ Camp Shelby, MS. On the civilian side he is a Deployment Strategist for a FinTech startup company in NYC.

CPT Margaret Peterson is currently attending Logistics CCC and will report to Fort Carson, CO in November. She was previously assigned to Fort Bliss, TX, where she was a HET platoon leader, participated in two rotations to Eastern Europe, and completed the Bataan Memorial Death March at White Sands Missile Range.

LT Belin is currently serving as the S6 with the 1186th Deployment and Distribution Support Battalion, where she recently traveled to South Korea in support of the annual Korean Rotational Force mission. On the ci

Congratulations to eight of our Class of 2029 cadets who are officially contracted.

By contracting, these cadets have committed to completing ROTC and commissioning as officers in the United States Army upon graduation.

CDT Mary Beth Zaleski (‘29) is from Arnold, MD and lives in Zahm Hall. She is double majoring in Strategic Management and Theology.

CDT Marley Cady (‘29), originally from Cincinnati, OH, calls Grojean Hall home and studies Global Affairs and Spanish.

CDT Alex Kosior (‘29) is from Glastonbury, CT and lives in Dunne Hall. He is pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering.

CDT Andy O’Neill (‘29), a Sacramento, CA native, lives in Alumni Hall and studies Economics with minors in Finance and Theology.

CDT Ryan Casteleyn (‘29) is a Springfield, VA native who lives in Coyle Hall and is pursuing a degree in Applied and Computational Mathematics and Statistics (ACMS).

CDT Lizzie Reback (‘29) hails from Vienna, VA and calls Flaherty Hall home. She is studying Civil Engineering.

CDT Kaia Lauder (‘29) comes to Notre Dame from Ridgefield, WA and lives in Flaherty Hall. She studies Finance and Arabic.

CDT Jacob Klatt (‘29) hails from Highwood, IL and is a proud Dillon Hall resident. He studies Economics with a minor in Accounting.

CDTs Duffy (‘29) and O’Neill (‘29) competed in the Ironman 70.3 Augusta today! ☘️

The race consisted of a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike, and 13.1-mile run for a total of 70.3 miles.

Congratulations to both cadets on an incredible accomplishment and for continuing to represent Notre Dame wherever they compete!

Last week, our cadets participated in the Duncan Hall’s 8th Annual ND110 Stairclimb! to honor the first responders who served on September 11, 2001.

Cadets climbed 110 flights of stairs in Notre Dame Stadium, representing the 110 stories of the World Trade Center and recognizing the physical sacrifice of the firefighters and police officers who responded that day.

We climb in remembrance of those who served, sacrificed, and never made it home. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

Alumni Spotlight ☘️

2LT Drew Wunderlich (‘25) recently graduated from Ranger School, earning his Tab! Fellow Fightin’ Irish alumni 2LT Caston Murphy (‘25), 2LT Bernard Childress (‘26), and 1LT Martinez (‘24) joined him for graduation.

Congratulations to Drew on an incredible accomplishment and continuing to represent Notre Dame!

Alumni Spotlight ☘️

A huge congratulations to 2LT Sean O’Gara (’25) for finishing IBOLC yesterday as the Honor Grad and Iron Leader Award Winner. Incredible work, sir!

COL Steve Schmidt, Commander of 7th Brigade, visited Notre Dame to recognize the Fightin’ Irish Battalion as the 2025 General Douglas MacArthur Award recipient, marking the 7th time our program has earned the title of top program in 7th Brigade.

COL Schmidt also recognized our Professor of Military Science, LTC William Kobbe, as the 2025 PMS of the Year. This marks his second time earning the prestigious U.S. Army Cadet Command honor, a testament to his exceptional leadership of our program. ☘️

CDTs Thornburg (’27) and Wheeler (’27) both earned RECONDO status at CST, ranking 4th and 46th in the nation, respectively.

Thornburg also received the AUSA Leadership Excellence Award, recognizing him as the top cadet of 7th Regiment, as selected by the regimental cadre board. Congratulations!

A strong finish to CST 2026! The Fightin’ Irish Battalion finished 5th overall out of 260 Army ROTC programs in the nation. Of our 24 cadets who completed CST, 8 finished in the top 10% of all graduates, showcasing the hard work and dedication they’ve put in throughout their time at Notre Dame. We are so proud!

CDTs Dacunto (‘29) and Freking (‘28) wrapped up their summer at The Sabalauski Air Assault School earning some wings! Repelling out of a UH-60, these cadets put in the work physically and academically during the 10 day course. Air Assault!
