Keep on hiking!

We had an awesome morning exploring the trails of Norwood. A huge thank you to Norwood Trails for leading the way and to this awesome group of young people for trying something new and bringing the laughs.

We still have two more chances to join us on the trails - 8/17 and 8/24. Reach out for more info!

Friendship is one of life’s most powerful, and most important, relationships. The people we choose to share our time, energy and selves with often shape who we become. A great friend may not always agree with you or share your exact interests, but they should always respect your boundaries and help you become the very best version of yourself.

Find your people, they are out there.

A big thank you to Chris from Norwood Trails for leading these hearty souls out on the Vanderbilt Trail despite the pouring rain!

We had a great time - enjoying the best of Norwood’s trail system, all while making some new friends. We know a lot of the sign ups couldn’t make it due to the weather - we hope to see you next Monday!

Prevention work is for everyone!

Youth substance use prevention reaches far beyond helping our young people in Norwood. Prevention work benefits everyone who lives, works or plays in Norwood.

According to the CDC and SAMHSA, evidence-based prevention strategies help build stronger families, improve mental health, increase school success, and reduce youth substance use. Communities also benefit through lower healthcare costs, less crime, reduced strain on emergency services, and a healthier, more productive workforce.

Investing in prevention today creates safer, healthier communities for years to come.

Did you know? 35% of Norwood High School students who currently use cannabis report obtaining it from home without their parents’ knowledge.

If you choose to use cannabis as a parent or caregiver, taking a few simple precautions can make a big difference:

🔒 Store cannabis in a secure, locked location that is out of sight and out of reach.
📦 Keep track of how much you have at home so you’ll notice if anything is missing.
💬 Most importantly, have regular, open conversations with your child about your family’s expectations regarding cannabis use and the importance of making healthy choices.

Safe storage and ongoing communication are simple but effective ways to help reduce youth access to cannabis and support healthy decision-making.

This August, IMPACT Norwood and Norwood Trails are teaming up for a FREE hiking series for rising 5th-12th graders. Held on the first four Mondays in August at 10:00 AM, these fun, social-paced hikes are a great way for youth to connect with friends, meet new people, and explore some of Norwood’s beautiful local trails.

We will enjoy a relaxed hiking pace, light refreshments after each hike, and the chance to earn a very (and we mean VERY!) special prize by completing at least two of the four hikes. Hikes will alternate between the Vanderbilt Trail (1.5 miles) and Meadow Street Conservation Trail (5 miles), with participants meeting at the trailheads. Maps with parking instructions can be found through the QR code.

Hike Dates: August 3, 10, 17, and 24 at 10:00 AM
Who: Rising 5th-12th graders
Cost: FREE

Grab a friend or two, make memories, and discover the beautiful trails we have right here in Norwood!
