Anvia holds her 200-hour Yoga Alliance Teacher Certification from Namaste Studio under the teaching of Mary Pat Murphy, Karen Duganier and Ruth Zito. She has also received Anusara-inspired teaching from Todd Norian; therapeutic yoga training from Doug Keller; assist training from Bernadette Birney; therapeutics from Chad Stose; and Ashtanga-inspired teaching from Noah Maze. Currently, Anvia is pursuing her 300-hour Yoga Teacher Training under Mary Pat Murphy thru Namaste Yoga Studio. In addition to yoga training, Anvia is a fully trained Reflexologist and incorprorates aromatherapy in her practice. She is the creator of the Chakra candles sold at Namaste Studio. Why Reflexology? It was while working in corporate America that something began to not feel right. I felt sick...anxious, exhausted, and overall miserable. As this started to become my new normal, I began to question whether it was perhaps my environment that was the cause. I was pondering this at yoga one winter night when I had the good fortune of meeting a lady who practiced Reflexology. I honestly had no idea what it was, but it piqued my interest, and so when she suggested I come see her for a session, I did. And I floated home. I had never felt anything so wonderful. Ever. By the time the session was over, my body felt light; my mind calm. I never knew that my feet held so much anxiety, and that they played such a key factor in releasing that anxious energy. I was hooked, and it was here that my new normal began to evolve. Not the one of long stress-filled hours, frantic deadlines, and that dreaded knot in my stomach each morning when the alarm went off, but one of peace, happiness and mindfulness. In my practices of yoga and reflexology as a student, I had unknowingly started on a new path. Shortly after, I needed a major surgery, and while recovering, I sat on my back porch thinking...asking the universe for a sign...contemplating until finally, I knew. It was time to leave the corporate world and pursue my dream of a new business. I made my exit from that world and promptly entered a new one, enrolling in Reflexology school, and quickly after, also enrolling in yoga teacher training at Namaste Yoga Studio. At which point I promptly panicked. It was a lot of change, and my mind was on fire. Am I doing the right thing? For me? For my family? Can I do this? I can, and I did. And haven't looked back. With every class...with every session, my confidence grows in myself and the path I've chosen. What exactly is Reflexology? Here is the text book definition: Reflexology is the practice of applying pressure to the feet and hands utilizing specific thumb, finger and hand techniques without the use of oil, cream or lotion based on a system of zones and reflex areas that reflex an image of the body on the feet and hands with a premise that such work effects a physical change in the body. Here is the good stuff: There are 206 bones in the body, 52 of those are in your feet along with 214 ligaments and 38 muscles. That is a serious foundation. Since there are more bones in your feet than in any other place in your body, the outcome of Reflexology is that you're going to feel a difference, and that difference is going to be great.
