Jackie Y. Stewart in 1922, and was originally named Las Vegas Grammer School Branch No. 1. It is located at the Northeast corner, facing south on Washington Avenue and borders "D" Street. The original building was constructed in a modest mission revival style, "a quiet dignity" in block A of "Valley View addition" to city of Las Vegas. Students and faculty from diverse cultures regarded their experiences with affection and esteem. In existence from 1922 and closed in 1967, Westside School has great historical significance as the oldest remaining schoolhouse in Las Vegas. Today the building houses KCEP radio and the offices of the Economic Opportunity Board. In 1979, Westside School was name to The National Register of Historic Places. In 2010, the historic school was listed on the city of Las Vegas Historic Property Regeistry as a Historic Landmark, and is recognized on the city, state and national registers of historic places.
