Today, our students enjoyed a wonderful Sensory-Friendly Public Safety Day at Village School! We are incredibly grateful to Ashley McClain and the LINKED Autism Safety Project, the North Haven Fire Department, and the North Haven Police Department for making this special experience possible.

Students had the opportunity to explore emergency vehicles and equipment, meet the police K-9, and interact with the dedicated first responders who help keep our community safe every day. Thank you for creating such a meaningful, engaging, and inclusive experience for our students! 🚒🚔🐕

This week’s Village Staff Connection is Sharimar Cruz, ABAT. Sharimar was nominated by her colleagues for her positive attitude, her above-and-beyond commitment to students, and the meaningful way she contributes to the school community. Her colleagues shared that Sharimar steps in without being asked, is always willing to help others, and consistently puts students first. She is viewed as a strong leader who brings creativity, dedication, and care to all aspects of the program. Sharimar has been with ACES for about four years. Before coming to ACES, she worked as an infant teacher at a daycare, where she met our Lead BCBA, who encouraged her to join the ACES team. Sharimar began her career at ACES as a TAD and later moved into her current role as an ABAT. When asked what she loves most about Village, Sharimar shared that she appreciates how friendly and supportive everyone is. She loves seeing the relationships students build with staff and recognizing the positive impact staff have on students’ daily lives at school. She also shared that she values how ACES pushes her to work harder and provides opportunities for her to grow and learn from her coworkers. Outside of work, Sharimar enjoys baking desserts. She shared that baking brings her a sense of calm, no matter how rough her day may have been. Thank you, Sharimar, for your leadership, creativity, and dedication to the students and staff at Village School. We are lucky to have you as part of our team!

This week’s Village Staff Connection shines on Michaela Haynie, Adapted Physical Education Teacher. Michaela was nominated by several colleagues for her constant reassuring presence, hard work, and unwavering dedication to all of our students. Staff shared that Michaela is a strong and positive presence throughout the building who can always be counted on whenever and wherever she is needed. Whether she is supporting students, helping with school-wide events, or stepping up to assist a colleague, Michaela consistently goes above and beyond for the Village community. Michaela is an active member of several school committees and plays an important role in many of the events that make Village such a special place. She helps ensure the music is playing at our dance parties, the food is ready for family and staff events, and most importantly, that Village hosts what many would argue is the best Field Day in the state! Michaela joined Village School in 2019, beginning her career in education here. She was drawn to physical education because of her passion for living an active lifestyle and her desire to share that passion with children. Village provided the perfect opportunity to combine her interests in physical activity, adapted physical education, and creativity. She appreciates the ability to think outside the box and create meaningful opportunities for all students to participate and succeed. When asked what she loves most about Village, Michaela shared that it is the strong sense of community and the opportunity to celebrate students' successes every day. She especially enjoys watching students achieve goals that may seem small to others but represent tremendous growth and accomplishment for them. Outside of school, Michaela coaches a competitive gymnastics team and enjoys staying active through hiking and going to the gym. She also values spending time with her friends and family whenever she can. As Village prepares for its move to a new building, Michaela is excited about the opportunities the new space will provide and looks forward to bringing everyone together as one school community. Thank you, Michaela, for your leadership, positivity, and commitment to our students. Your energy, creativity, and dedication help make Village a place where students and staff can thrive.

Today we celebrated our students during the ACES Village School Stepping Up Ceremony. We are so proud of our graduates and all they have accomplished throughout their time with us. This year's class was one of our largest yet with 25 students graduating!!

For several students, this journey began when they were just 3 years old, making today's celebration especially meaningful. This class also holds a unique place in our school's history as the final graduating class of ACES Village School before we transition to our new home, ACES Bassett Road School.

As our graduates step into the next chapter of their lives, we wish them continued success, happiness, and growth. Congratulations to the Class of 2026! We are honored to have been part of your journey and can't wait to see what comes next. 🎓🦁💙
