Every year Project SEARCH hosts a Shining Star Celebration where 10 Project SEARCH programs across Oklahoma come together to recognize their Shining Star and Making a Difference recipients!

This year, NRH / Moore Public Schools is proud to recognize Brooke Durrette as our Shining Star, and Katie Henderson and Jessica Pendley as our Making a Difference Award recipients! 🌟

We are beyond proud of Brooke β€” not only is she our Shining Star, but she is also our very first intern to be hired… by NRH, we might add! πŸŽ‰ What an incredible accomplishment!

Our Making a Difference Award is usually given to one individual, but this dynamic duo has made such a huge impact on our interns that we just couldn’t choose between them. Katie and Jessica have gone above and beyond by not only mentoring our interns, but by creating a welcoming space in their department where interns can learn, grow, and truly feel like part of the team.

Thank you all for the difference you make every single day. We are so grateful for your support, dedication, and belief in our interns! ❀️

Connor Tomlinson, a standout cast member from Netflix's "Love on the Spectrum," has been advocating for Senate Bill 433 in Georgia, known as Rio's Law. The legislation would create a voluntary specialty license plate to alert first responders that a driver or passenger may have autism or a developmental disability.

It also calls for enhanced training to help law enforcement and emergency personnel better understand and respond to individuals on the spectrum during interactions. This effort, inspired in part by personal experiences and stories from the autism community, has gained strong bipartisan support.

The bill passed both the Georgia Senate and House unanimously earlier this year and is now awaiting action from Governor Brian Kemp. Such measures aim to promote greater awareness and safer encounters for neurodiverse Georgians.

In this Project SEARCH Alumni Association webinar, we explore ABLE Savings Accounts. These tax-free savings accounts allow people with disabilities to save money without affecting their benefits. ABLE programs are now available in 47 states, giving individuals and families more options and financial independence.

Presenters Lauri Maloney and Lori Lamphere walk us through what ABLE accounts are, who is eligible, how to open an account, and how ABLE savings can be used. They also share important features to consider when choosing an ABLE plan.
This session is part of the Project SEARCH Alumni Association webinar series, which provides helpful information and resources for graduates, families, instructors, and friends.

Special thanks to our sponsor, Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation (MEAF), for supporting the Project SEARCH Alumni Association and making educational content like this possible!
