Penn State Hampton Roads

What's happening at Penn State Homecoming where we can toot our Hampton Roads horn? How about the Homecoming! Congratulations Cheryl Nelson for being named to the Alumni Court at this year's Homecoming!

Cheryl says, "Some places stay with you long after you leave them. Penn State is one of those places. Homecoming is a wonderful reminder of what makes Penn State University so special — the traditions, the friendships, the memories, and that feeling of being part of something bigger than yourself."

"This year, I’m grateful to represent the , , and Penn State Hampton Roads, alongside fellow alums, Vivian and Brittany, as part of the 2026 Homecoming Alumni Court. "🐾

Look for Cheryl and the Court in the Homecoming parade and on the field during the Penn State–Wisconsin 🏈 game at Beaver Stadium.

We have an author in our midst! Penn State's Cheryl Nelson, 2002 BS Meteorology, Hampton Roads Chapter member and CEO of "Prepare with Cher", is "preparing" to launch her autobiographical book.

You've seen Cheryl at our chapter TV tailgates, representing Penn State at the Hampton college fair, as our Annual Meeting guest speaker several years ago and on TV from local channels to networks coast-to-coast.

Her book Wind Shift tells the true story of a meteorologist whose career and life took more detours than she ever could have predicted. Cheryl tells the story of a life shaped by winding paths, professional setbacks, and hard-earned resilience, until an unexpected illness changed everything. After a career spent helping others prepare, she suddenly found herself fighting for her own future.

If your own path has shifted, Wind Shift is proof that even without a clear map, you can still find your way forward. Launching Oct. 13, you can get on the wait list for her book now. https://app.brandingbybooks.com/p/cheryl-nelson Congratulations, Cheryl!
