Serving the Hampton Roads community since 1997 Upsilon Omicron Omega Chapter was formed by the interest group Pearls of Sisterhood.

In December of 1996, members interested in chartering a second chapter in the Norfolk area held their first meeting. As a result of this meeting, the group decided to move forward by petitioning Doris R. Asbury, 13th Mid-Atlantic Regional Director, with proposed chartering plans. The Regional Director guided the ladies through the process. They began the work necessary to become the 109th chapter

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Upsilon Omicron Omega Chapter — Empower Our Families committee hosted our annual Mind Your Mind seminar with the topic “Caring for the Caregiver.”

Mrs. Crystal J. Jones, MSN, APRN, FNP-C
Owner & CEO of Gateway Medical & Mental Healthcare, LLC gave a dynamic presentation on caregiver strain. She instructed us to replace the word “caregiver” with “servant”

We ended the seminar with this powerful quote. “There are only four kinds of people in the world. Those who have been caregivers. Those who are currently caregivers. Those who will be caregivers, and those who will need a caregiver.” -Rosalyn Carter

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ®, Upsilon Omicron Omega Chapter had an impactful May chapter meeting.

We kicked it off with an Empower Our Families CHIPP packing party and created 90 bags to drop off to Lindenwood Elementary School using donations from our recent event 🧃🍿.

We honored May for National Mental Health Awareness month by wearing Green to show our support. Sister Tina led a Mindful Meditation moment exercise for us to unwind from the stressors in our own lives💚🧘🏾‍♀️☮️.

Sister Mona presented certificates to 31 chapter members who completed the four M.A.P.P. tracks for the Leadership Development Committee. This accounts for 1/3 of our chapter and we are challenging ourselves to 100% completion by Fall 2025 ✅📋.

Under the leadership of Sister Heidi, the Program Chair/CoChair Sister Squad showcased how we are committed to Strengthening Out Sisterhood by displaying their sashes with their respective Program targets🎽💕.

Enhance Our Environment hosted a Soles for Souls drop off in the meeting in which we donated shoes to DSW. In addition we simultaneously collected eyeglasses to donate to the Lion’s Club. Then, the boxes left over from the packing we broke down and made sure to recycle post-meeting 👟👠👓📦

And last but certainly not least, the Sisterly Relations honored the legacies in our chapter with a Jennifer Hudson show inspired tunnel parade💃🏽👯‍♀️.
