In recognition of the hard work and dedication of all residents and fellows, and especially those serving at Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University, Norfolk Mayor Kenneth Alexander issued a proclamation declaring Friday, Feb. 28, as “Thank a Resident Day.”
In the proclamation, he encourages all citizens, community agencies and businesses to recognize the medical residents and fellow physicians within the community and thank them for their diligent work in safeguarding the health of Hampton Roads.

This closure includes ODU’s main campus, its medical campus and its higher education center locations in Virginia Beach, Portsmouth and Hampton.

From a Bumble match to Match Day success, they’ve navigated the challenges of medical training together. Now, as Dr. Wallace continues her psychiatry residency with us, Browning, a physical therapy doctoral student at ODU, is by her side supporting her every step of the way.

When Marcus Martin, MD, walked across the stage at Eastern Virginia Medical School in 1976, he made history as the first Black graduate of the school. A member of the medical school’s inaugural class, Dr. Martin's journey from Covington, Virginia, to becoming one of the most respected figures in academic medicine is a testament to perseverance, leadership and the power of community.

The Women in Medicine and Science (WiMS) Annual Event was held on campus Tuesday, bringing together faculty, staff and trainees to inspire and empower women in health professions.
Diana Lautenberger (pictured), director of Gender Equity Initiatives for the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), presented "Understanding and Addressing Gender Equity: A Leadership Skill of the Future."
Fittingly, the event took place on the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. ✨

Due to winter weather, Old Dominion University will follow a delayed opening for all locations on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025 until 10:00 a.m. with classes resuming at 11:00 a.m.
This delay includes ODU’s Eastern Virginia Medical School campus.
Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences EVMS Medical Group at ODU will have an on-time opening, including clinical operations (patient appointments), for Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025.
Old Dominion University will follow a delayed opening for all locations on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025 until 10:00 a.m. with classes resuming at 11:00 a.m.

The observance event, which is free and open to public, begins at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 28 at Chartway Arena. Parking is available in the Constant Center 43rd Street Garage.
