🌿 We're so proud of our amazing Eco-Committee! 🌿

After a year of hard work, they've achieved so much—from planting trees, creating a wildlife pond and bug hotels, to caring for our school environment and raising awareness of sustainability.

This week, they proudly unveiled our new Surlingham School Eco-Code, which will help guide our school in caring for the environment for years to come.

What a fantastic achievement as we submit our Green Flag application. Well done, Eco-Committee! 💚🌍

🏆 Culture Change Award – Tender Awards 2026 🏆

What an unforgettable day for our tiny, wonderful schools! 💙

We are absolutely thrilled to share that Surlingham Primary School and Rockland St Mary Primary School were honoured with the Culture Change Award at the Tender Awards 2026—an award recognising our commitment to creating a culture of kindness, respect, healthy relationships and positive change.

To make the moment even more special, the award was presented by the incredible Olivia Colman, who gave the most heartfelt and inspiring speech about our schools and the difference that even the smallest schools can make. It was a moment we'll treasure forever.

We were very proud to be represented by Ella (Surlingham) and Amara (Rockland), whose outstanding leadership through our Kindness Crew has helped champion respect, inclusion and positive relationships across both schools. They truly embody everything this award stands for.

Sharing the day with inspirational figures including Ed Sinclair, Jodie Whittaker, Toby Jones, Kiell Smith-Bynoe, Priyanga Burford, Jo Johnson, Jess Phillips MP, Natalie Fleet MP, David Larby and Nina Goswami was an amazing experience—but our proudest moment was watching Ella and Amara stand amongst them, knowing they had earned their place.

This award belongs to every child, member of staff and family who helps make our schools communities where kindness matters, every voice is valued and everyone belongs.

The Tender Awards remind us that real change doesn't begin with famous faces—it begins in classrooms, playgrounds and school communities where children learn to lead with empathy, courage and compassion.

Ella and Amara, you represented us with confidence, warmth and pride. You are proof that young people have the power to change the world—and we couldn't be prouder of you both. 💙

🌱 Another fantastic afternoon at our Field Farm! 🌱

Today, the children enjoyed another hands-on planting and crop care session, supported once again by our wonderful parent volunteer, Stuart Johnson.

Several weeks ago, Stuart helped the children plant sweetcorn seeds in pots. We're delighted to say those tiny seeds have grown into healthy young plants and were ready to be transplanted into our field farm today! The children learned how to prepare the soil, plant the sweetcorn correctly and install protective guards to help keep local wildlife away.

The afternoon also included earthing up our potato plants and giving all of our crops a good watering. It's incredible to see how much progress has been made in such a short time. We now have potatoes, pumpkins, carrots, beetroot and sweetcorn all growing on our very own patch of land! 🥕🎃🌽🥔

A huge thank you to Stuart for generously giving his time, knowledge and expertise to support this project. The children are learning so much from these experiences, and we can't wait to watch our crops continue to grow over the coming months.

Our Field Farm is really starting to take shape, and the children are loving every minute of it! 💚

A huge thank you to FOSS for organising such a fantastic fete on Saturday! 🌧️🎪

Despite the rain doing its best to dampen proceedings, it certainly didn't dampen spirits. There was such a wonderful atmosphere throughout the day, and it was clear how much hard work, planning and dedication went into making the event a success.

Some of us got slightly soggy, but it was absolutely worth it! Thank you to all the volunteers, staff, stall holders and everyone who helped make the day so enjoyable for our children and families.

We’re incredibly lucky to have such a supportive PTA and school community. 👏

Beach Bags!
This week in DT, the children in Chestnuts Class have been busy putting the finishing touches to their beach bag project - all ready to take them to the beach!

To start the project, the children used iPads to research a variety of beach bags, exploring different styles and discussing the features they found most appealing. They then experimented with a range of decorative techniques, including printing, paint pens and embellishments, before creating their own designs on paper and selecting the methods they wanted to use on their final bags.
Paint pens proved to be a popular choice, with every child incorporating them into their design. Some children also chose to add colourful gems, giving their bags an extra touch of sparkle and individuality. It was fantastic to see so much creativity and personal expression throughout the project.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and were incredibly proud of their finished creations. They are now looking forward to taking their handmade beach bags on next week's beach trip!

What a lovely afternoon we had at our Maypole celebrations! 🌸☀️

All three classes performed some wonderfully intricate Maypole dances and the children did an amazing job learning and showcasing such complex routines. We were so proud of them all!

After the performances, everyone joined together for some country dancing, with parents, grandparents, friends, family, carers, teachers and children all getting involved. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces dancing together and enjoying the afternoon.

Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make it such a fun and memorable celebration! 💛

🦋 Over the past few weeks, the children have loved watching our caterpillars grow and transform into beautiful butterflies!

We were very grateful to receive the caterpillars from the South Yare Wildlife Group as part of our learning about nature, habitats and biodiversity. The children were fascinated by each stage of the life cycle and were so excited to finally release the butterflies into the wild once they were fully grown.

This wonderful experience has supported our Eco Schools work and helped the children develop a greater understanding of the importance of caring for wildlife and protecting biodiversity in our environment.

A huge thank you to the South Yare Wildlife Group for their generous donation and support! 🌿🦋

🌿 Farm Visit 🌿
Our key stage 2 children had a brilliant trip to our local farm, bringing their geography learning to life. They explored how farming has changed over time and learned about sustainable food production.
They also learnt about potato planting – just in time for our own school field project! A big highlight was seeing the farm machinery up close. 🚜
Thank you to our parent volunteers and the farmers for making this such a memorable day. 🌱
