What is low T?

Low testosterone levels can have a number of health risks,

Bone loss

Low low testosterone levels can lead to reduced bone mass and increased risk of bone fractures

Cardiovascular disease

Low T levels are a risk factor for hypertension and other cardiovascular markers

Diabetes

Men with low testosterone levels are at a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes

Sleep apnea

Low testosterone levels are associated with sleep apnea, a condition that causes people to stop breathing temporarily while asleep

Erectile dysfunction

Low T levels can cause erectile dysfunction…. nuff said!

Emotional changes

Low T can contribute to depression, irritability, and trouble concentrating

Physical changes

Low T can cause decreased muscle mass and strength, increased body fat, and loss of body hair

Men, if your testosterone levels are low, you’re not gonna reach your fitness goals. What is a man to do in this situation? First you need to find a doctor that specializes in Low T for men or testosterone replacement therapy. Make sure he’s an expert in this field. The doctor will do a blood test to check your testosterone and other hormone levels. With your blood panel the doctor can determine whether you have Low T. Low Testosterone is typically in a range of 300 to 700 in men. If you are below normal range you may need testosterone replacement therapy. TRT is not the same as taking steroids. Steroid users are trying to elevate their levels above a normal range to enhance their bodies beyond their bodies natural ability to do so.

Men on TRT are simply trying to feel like their old selves again and get back to normal. To get your testosterone level in a normal range a doctor will prescribe either a cream, testosterone shot, or a pellet. Most experts recommend a shot with Testosterone Cypionate in a series of injections to build up the man’s levels due to its short duration in one’s system. It must be built up over time to get levels stable.

Once stabilized the person’s body will start to respond and feel more like normal. The health benefits are numerous. Strength, muscle, and bone density come back. You will sleep better. Your concentration is better. Your S*x drive and libido will return. Your ability to handle stress will increase and you will handle stress more efficiently. It will drastically improve mental health and decrease depression and many other issues.

The key take away from this is the importance hormones play in our health and in particular, testosterone in men. If you are over the age of 35 -40 I would highly recommend speaking to a health professional to check your levels.

Setting lots of short term goals is crucial. If you set your goals so high that they’re physiologically impossible to achieve in the time frame you’ve chosen, and your results fall short of your expectations, you will end up disappointed.

It is crucial to set attainable short term goals. This will build your confidence and get you the results you are seeking.

When I was in the Marine Corps we had a saying that has always stuck with me. It was called “The 7 P’s” this stood for “Prior Proper Planning Prevents P*ss Poor Performance”. The meaning being plan ahead and be prepared instead of waiting until the last minute.

This brings me to meal prep. You have to have a plan ahead of time or you will have a hard time being consistent. Whether you choose a day to cook and package your meals for the week or buy already prepped food like I do it is key to staying on point, on track and maintaining discipline in eating. It also makes tracking your macros very easy.

Having the right foods for your meal plan or specific diet plan is key. Do not wait until you get “hangry” and try to figure it out.

Conversely and just as important as meal prep is do your best to get rid of foods in your home that will tempt you, are not good for you or will sabotage your meal plan. High calorie, high fat, high carb foods, processed foods, and sweets need to be taken out of the home so they do not become an option.

You will thank yourself later for putting in the thought and work on the front end.

Most people think body building is getting in a bikini and posing and competing in a bodybuilding contest. This is competitive bodybuilding not body building . The essence of body building is building your body and making improvements to your physique through adding muscle, losing bodyfat, and accentuating certain muscles to attain a body you want.

Body building is a lifestyle. The reason it’s a lifestyle is because it takes time and effort in eating, training and consistency. Transforming your body does not happen overnight. You don’t just get fat overnight. Just like in life it’s all about the choices we make. We all reap what we sow. You eat too many calories, carbs and or fat you will get a result. Discipline is nothing more than consistently making choices to reach a goal. Those choices can be good or bad. People do not realize we are “disciplined” to do what we want, enjoy, or desire. It really comes down to making good choices consistently that will add up in our lives. This doesn’t just apply to bodybuilding or transforming your physique but to life itself.

The key to change is the sheer desire to make different choices consistently. It’s keeping not only your goal in mind but the quality of life you want. What do want in this life? How do you get there? It’s certainly not by doing nothing. Whether you start small and work up or decide to “go big or go home” it all starts with a simple decision…I am going to live differently.

Most people want to change but just don’t know how. That’s where I come in and people like me. We are here to help, encourage and keep you on track for your betterment. So take the next step…make a choice for yourself to change and have a healthier quality of life and embrace a body building lifestyle.

One of the most crucial habits I had to learn was tracking what I was eating. “Macros” or Macronutrients are simply the sum of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates you are taking in on a daily basis. Most people are shocked what they discover when they start doing this.

Whether you track this manually or using an app it will give you valuable information and insights that let know what to adjust and alter to lose bodyfat.

If you have never tracked what you ate in a macros breakdown I encourage you to give it a try for one week. You web search “macros for …insert food item and amount…hit enter.

This does take effort and being intentional but you will get used to it. You will be amazed at what you find.

I always hated how fat my backside was…12 months of managing what I ate and being consistent in training got me here. It was all about consistency and not giving up on my goal.
