Hi everyone! In case you're looking for an enrichment class for this semester, we've still got room in our Chinese Art and Culture Exploration class that begins next week in NOBLESVILLE!

We've offered this class before, and it's super engaging and fun. The teacher, Yingjia, is a highly experienced Chinese painter and calligrapher who integrates traditional Chinese art and/or cultural exercises into every class. Students might do calligraphy one week and wrap dumplings the next! Last time she taught the class, she even brought silk worms for a demo on Chinese silk culture, and the kids did a Chinese-style silk painting.

Classes are on Tuesdays from 9:30-11:30 AM, and we meet for 15 weeks. Class starts next week! For more information, please visit the website: www.artbyspartz.com/homeschool and apply here: www.artbyspartz.com/apply

We are still accepting applications for this summer's programs!

In The Budding Artist Camp:Silk School (ages 7-12), students will gain exposure to a variety of silk painting and dyeing techniques. For example, students may practice carrageenan marbleizing one day and silk painting with gutta resist the next.

In The Young Artist Intensive: Chinese Painting (ages 12+), students will gain exposure to the two main traditional Chinese painting techniques—gongbi and shuimo. Some exposure to Chinese brush painting technique is invaluable for even the young Western artist, as he or she will learn to convey a sense of spontaneity in his or her work while translating the spirit or essence of a subject (rather than simply replicating its appearance). This intensive will be taught by Yingjia, a trained architect, painter, and art historian who specializes in traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy.

The application for the Spring 2025 homeschool Foundations of Drawing course is now open!

This course is appropriate for students with no previous drawing experience as well as those with some experience. The class will focus on form rather than color—students will learn how to accurately convey the forms of various objects with charcoal and graphite. Students will learn how to convey dimensionality through various techniques. Various exercises will be assigned to complete outside of class.

Students with prior experience are also welcome to enroll; they will be assigned more technically advanced projects, e.g. involving toned paper, monochromatic painting, etc.

The class will be conducted similarly to a college-level drawing class, but scaled to the developmental needs of each individual student.

Meet our distinguished veteran teacher, Yingjia!

Yingjia began studying calligraphy (in China) at the age of six. Throughout her adolescence, she studied with several famous Chinese calligraphers, including Liang Zhenxiong, Lin Shaoming, and the illustrious “Mr. Qigong.” She later studied Architecture, World Art History, and Painting at Guangdong University of Technology. She received the Diamond Cup Award (the highest distinction) in the Chinese Double Dragon Cup (Shuanglongbei) Calligraphy and Painting Competition in addition to several other calligraphy- and painting-related honors. She was invited to participate in both Peking University’s Centennial Calligraphy Exhibition and the world tour exhibition of works by China’s top ten young calligraphers.

Yingjia has taught calligraphy, painting, Chinese language, and Chinese culture to both children and adults in China and the United States. She will be teaching the Spring 2025 Chinese Culture Exploration class and the Summer 2025 Young Artist Intensive (Chinese Painting).

We ❤️ Yingjia!
