Hi everyone!

We’ve had several parents ask about background checks today, which is super exciting! We are so happy to have so many families interested in helping and volunteering with the band this season.

For anyone planning to chaperone, assist at Band Camp, work with students, or volunteer in a capacity that involves student interaction, Niles City Schools requires both a BCI and FBI background check before you can be approved as a volunteer.

I’ve attached the background check information sheet for your reference. Please take a moment to review it if you are interested in volunteering this year.

A few important reminders:
✅ Both the BCI and FBI checks are required.
✅ The total cost is approximately $70 upfront
✅ The Band Boosters will Reimburse the cost in Band Scholarship Dollars for volunteers. (Band Scholarship Dollars can than be used for Band expenses, such as paying towards Band camp fees, uniforms Fees, and more)
✅ Background checks must be approved by the Board of Education before you can chaperone or work with students. (So please get this scheduled and done asap if you wish to have your background check back before band camp)

To volunteer at Band Camp, you must have a BCI/FBI background check on file with both Niles City Schools and the Band Boosters — or be in the process of obtaining one and have spoken with our Co-Presidents Heidi or Sarah.

Tuesday, July 7th, will be a special Meet the Director and Q&A Night for incoming freshman band students and their families.

This is a great opportunity to meet Mr. O, Director of the Niles Red Dragon Marching Band, learn more about the program, and get answers to any questions you may have before the season gets into full swing.
