💡 💚 🧠 In light of May being Mental Health Awareness Month, I would be remiss if I didn’t talk about the pressing issue of mental health among young women.
It is the driving force behind all of my work, and their mental well-being is at the core of everything I do. Although I bear the title of a Success Coach, I embrace it because I believe everyone deserves to feel a sense of “success” in their own unique way. However, the current state of affairs is undeniably unsettling. The recent statistics, particularly concerning young women and teens, are truly alarming and deeply concerning.
According to a survey published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in early February 2023, in 2021, 57% of high school girls reported experiencing persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness in the past year, compared to 36% in 2011. Shockingly, this percentage is nearly twice as high as the 29% of males who reported similar feelings in 2021.
These numbers are not just shocking; they are downright appalling. (PBS News Hour, 2/24/23) According to NAMI, 75% of all lifetime mental illness begins by age 24. Cont. in comments below

💡 🎓 YESSSSS!!! Louie Villalobos, Thank you for shedding light on this vulnerable phase that many young adults go through. The post-college transition can be overwhelming and filled with uncertainty. As parents, mentors, and loved ones, we often find ourselves asking, "So, what's next?" We cannot overlook the stress and challenges that recent graduates face, from the fear of the future to the competitive job market and the pressure to meet expectations.
That's why I firmly believe in the power of connection and support. Having experienced my own struggles during adolescence, I understand the significance of helping our graduates discover their strengths, cultivate self-trust, and remind them that they are not alone during these uncertain times. This article perfectly encapsulates the essence of why I created Life After Graduation, a program dedicated to providing guidance and resources. Check out the link in the comments.
So, if you come across a new graduate who is struggling, encourage them to stay connected and avoid isolation. Allow them to process their feelings of loss and embrace the journey ahead. This is their opportunity to explore new interests, establish their own routines, and forge new connections. A well-crafted plan for moving forward is crucial. If their difficulties persist, suggest considering the assistance of a career coach or seeking mental health counseling. Together, we can support these young adults and empower them to navigate this challenging transition with strength and resilience.
So you have a college graduate, now what? Why a plan forging forward is imperative. — USA TODAY

So, how can we step up and provide the support they deserve? They are worthy of better. This is precisely why I place tremendous value on CONNECTION. As a young woman myself, I recall the challenges I faced during my adolescent years, which were already difficult without having to confront half of what today's young women encounter. They carry our burdens and more. While some aspects may have seen slight improvements, the system as a whole has not, and in fact, many things have worsened. What options do they have?
In my opinion, the best course of action is to help them discover their true selves—their strengths, passions, and intentions. We need to instill in them the confidence to trust themselves and be there for them in whatever way we can. It's crucial to remind them that they are not alone but that we don't hold all the answers. Instead, we must guide and support them in finding their own answers. This is precisely why I launched my Life After Graduation Coaching Program.
There are far too many young women suffering at this very moment. The question is, what will you do to support them? How will you show up? My ultimate goal, eloquently expressed by Brooklyn Raney, is to become their "one trusted adult." "Success" is the goal because that's what they deserve, but before that, I just want to ensure they are OK. This work is not just a job or a passion for me; it is my life's calling and purpose.

!! I’m sure you’ve heard of this by now but at the time it was a game-changer for me. “Mindset change is not about picking up a few pointers here and there. It's about seeing things in a new way. When people...change to a growth mindset, they change from a judge-and-be-judged framework to a learn-and-help-learn framework. Their commitment is to growth, and growth takes plenty of time, effort, and mutual support.”
It’s ok if you don’t know how to do something, you just don’t know how YET!!
