Hello! I am working on my OG certification through the Dyslexia Training Institute and am looking for a practicum student. This student would work with me (preferably in person, but online is possible) 2x per week, an hour each session, for 9 months.
Other requirements:
- must be 7 years old and has finished 1st grade (or older; can be an adult)
- suspected or official dyslexia diagnosis, IEP w/ SLD classification, and/or history of struggling to read on the word level
- has never received OG instruction 1-to-1 (can have received it in a small group for 1 year or less)
- average IQ or higher
My normal rate will be reduced and negotiable based on need.
Please reach out if you are interested, and feel free to pass my information along to anyone else who might be interested!

I am tired of reading posts blaming teachers for the literacy crisis. The many teachers I associate with love their jobs and work tirelessly to be better educators. Where they miss the mark, it is because they are exhausted and simply cannot do better. Teachers need supportive systems and communities if you want reading instruction and intervention to improve.

Ever try to help a kid to remember what an interrogative sentence is when they can't even say the word? Four types of sentences printables for the whole class: class notes, practice, and a meaningful small-group lesson that helps students break down, pronounce, and actually remember what the words mean.

"International Literacy Day serves as a critical reminder that literacy is not a privilege — it is a human right," says Andrew Kay, CEO of the World Literacy Foundation. Some students take longer to learn how to read skillfully, and it's our job as parents, educators, and decision-makers to insist that our community schools make it the top priority.

Very happy to see this article in our local Sussex County newspaper, The Township Journal ! It's about a tiny district in Wyoming, but our schools in rural NJ should take note. Tiny, underfunded schools can meet students' needs, too. It doesn't require a diagnosis or an IEP, just data, flexibility, and creative scheduling. This school "looked at data and introduced diagnostic measures to identify specific skills gaps interfering with students' reading ability, followed by...targeted interventions." I'm here to tell you that this is replicable at your school, too. Link in comments.

If you've been wondering "What is Literacy with Dignity other than a Facebook account?" here's your answer! I'm pleased to announce limited tutoring openings for the fall of 2025 along with a variety of services designed to help DIY-type parents tutor their kids at home and/or advocate for interventions in school.
