Self compassion has been like the hardest thing for me but the more I practice saying little sayings like this to myself I’ve been slowly and slowly getting better at coping on my own and I only started a few months ago. Has anyone else tried this? Is this helpful for anyone else?!

I have CPTSD with borderline tendencies and had the most insane traumatic response a few weeks ago. I started blacking out and couldn’t remember things, I was dissociating for 3-6 hours and it was terrifying. This has led me into doing some research DID and I want to spread awareness. They do say that parts of ourselves can split off when we experience trauma. This is why sometimes you might feel like, a younger version of yourself especially when a strong emotion is triggered... Have you experienced any dissociative episodes or do you know anyone with DID?.

Emotions are fast. It takes about 100 milliseconds for our brain to react emotionally and about 600 milliseconds for our thinking brain, our cortex, to register this reaction. By the time you decide that it's better not to get mad or to be sad, your face has been expressing it for 500 milliseconds. Too late; the emotional signal has been sent. It's like pressing "send" on your email before you double-check the content and address.

Emotion regulation focuses on skills that benefit everyone who has emotions (i.e., every human!), but they are most beneficial for those struggling with mood or personality disorders, especially those with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).

By understanding what triggers fear of abandonment, you can help to avoid or minimize others feelings by being aware of what can trigger them initially. Furthermore, you can help to provide reassurance or comfort when they begin to experience this fear.
