A child led program means the teacher is often in the background. That does not mean the adult is disengaged but rather closely paying attention and observing. Social media can paint a picture that a quality early childhood program always looks pretty and aesthetic. & don’t get me wrong, offering beautiful real life materials is part of the process but keeping it pretty is not. Children learn at a fuller capacity when given trust and freedom. Freedom to navigate, problem solve and experiment is how they learn boundaries & become kinder and more empathetic humans. 💛✨

What will each day lead to? What will unravel and be discovered? Children’s days are not meant to be packed with activities planned by adults but rather open to slowing down enough for the children’s ideas to expand.✨

Summer solstice is this Sunday & it is officially feeling like summer time at Wonder & Bloom Preschool. ☀️

Our program runs all year long, but we do take short seasonal breaks & we will have a 2 week summer break in a month. During summer I slow things down even more than usual and focus on letting the children build on their friendship skills. Summer brings excitement and often a burst of big feelings. I focus on intentional connection with each child all year long but particularly during summer time, while also balancing sitting back and allowing the children to navigate things together and just be present together.

Children are often subconsciously anticipating the big changes ahead during summer:going to kindergarten/friends leaving, meeting new friends, any family trips/plans. And with those changes children need extra space to feel their feelings. 💛

This was my 2nd year having a booth at Newberg Pride for the preschool and I will continue showing up, because I want families to know they are safe and all are welcome. 💗

I posted about the family friendly activities I was going to have at my booth on community groups and unfortunately on one group I got unkind comments. I actually had no idea I did until multiple amazingly kind parents stopped by my booth and thanked me for being in this space and apologized for the comments they saw on my post. I decided to delete the post on that page because it turned into an outlet for people to spread negativity and I will never support that.

I will keep showing up authentically and I will keep showing up for ALL children. This does not mean any adult conversations are being had with children, this does mean I will always be a safe place for children and ALL families.

It brought me so much joy seeing families light up at the bubble station, creating the windsocks together and adding rainbows to the doodle table. Until next year, Newberg Pride! 🌈

Butterfly release week is always a magical time of the school year. 🦋🌼

We released 5 butterflies today and will release 5 more tomorrow. ✨ Watching the children observe the caterpillars transformation into butterflies and then sending them into nature never gets old. We made the day extra special with a butterfly cake. 🍰

Happy things lately: our little lettuce sprouts, still life flower paintings, rainbows and magic potions. 🌱🌷🌈 🧪
