Flip Flops: The Root of All Evil | Polas Pilates 07/08/2015

An old post for any of my new bartender friends. Flip Flops - just say no! We'll talk about clogs and those rigid Dansko shoes another day. (Post is unedited from 2011 - boy the things we've learned and the science to support since then!)

Flip Flops: The Root of All Evil | Polas Pilates It is time for your annual shoe lecture. Consider it a right of passage of spring that could go away if you would all just freaking listen to me. But since I know you won’t, each year, I’ll mark my calendar for sometime in late April or early May and tell you all the reasons you should burn all the…

Can't wait to get to NYC next week and start getting handsy with some bartenders. Who must I meet?

An extra from the series. The camera starts off shaky, as this started off camera, but stick with it. No matter your job, some thoughts on using your body at work.

Bartenders, it's Epsom salt soak reminder day. Submerge those hands/forearms and feet/lower legs for 15-20 minutes today, then knead your tissue like dough and watch your blood flow increase, muscles relax, and mobility increase.

Quick reminder to work on your fascia, and submerge whatever aches in hot water and Epsom salt after shift tonight. And again before you head out in the morning!

This morning I got to spend time with the bartenders attending the USBG SW Regional conference. What an amazing group of men and women! At some point, somebody is going to create a cocktail called the Juicy Fascia!

a body at work the bartender series: #1 clip 04/11/2015

Reposting a few of the one minute clips from the series for anyone attending USBG SW Regional this week and for the BARMA crowd working on 100 days! We'll see if I have to post them separately, but fascia specific, check out #1 for why it matters, 2-5 for some how-to and areas to work on! Knead it like dough! (and please share and ask questions!)

Video showing your fascia! It starts with dehydrated fascia (looks like silicone to me!) then gets a bit more gooey as a hand is placed on the arm, and finally it looks runny (like snot!) after a bit of myofascial release. Toward the end you can see how blood flow increases (watch for the red streak through the vein!).

Now, is your fascia juicy? If not, get on it!!

Working in NYC Wednesday (3/18) - Tuesday (3/24). Send my bartenders who want to talk about their bodies and how it isn't supposed to hurt to do your job my way!

03/14/2015

Good luck to all my bartenders today! - especially those in states where pot is legal...green, drunk, and stoned...send me anyone who says your job isn't an Olympic Sport!

Use those cores, we'll call this Opening Day conditioning for anyone in Major League cities. Resting position when it's all over!
