The following is an explanation of what had occurred in our Game Night event on discord.
Two members were banned from our discord server (Usernames: Beni1414 #3166 and traderboi6745 #2178) on 4/21 during our Game Night event. South Asian Culture Club has a strict no racism and no sexism policy, especially when it comes to racism between South Asian countries. I want to make it clear that we do not take banning lightly. Discord user Beni1414 #3166 repeatedly made sexist comments and racist comments towards Bangladeshis and Indians. These comments included calling Bangladesh and India âstupidâ. He also stated that we should make teams of âPakistan vs Bangladeshâ, but then claimed that it wouldnât be fair because (paraphrased) âBangladeshiâs are low IQâ. User Beni1414 #3166 ârankedâ South Asian countries in terms of superiority, claiming âstupid f*cking Bangladesh is on the bottomâ. He also stated that âWomen shouldnât have leadership roles because they are too emotionalâ and mocked us for having a woman president. User Beni1414 #3166 directly attacked our president's qualifications solely based on her gender. Discord user traderboi6745 #2178 repeatedly enabled user Beni1414 #3166 in making these comments, stating that it was all jokes and was meant to be fun. There is nothing fun about comments like these. The E-Board warned them multiple times to stop, but they refused. We at SACC do not tolerate such behavior and have zero patience when it comes to this and have the responsibility of removing any person that acts in this way. After giving many chances, we banned both users to ensure a safe and tolerant environment. We have many (Non E-Board) witnesses to this incident. I hope this clears any hollow claims made towards our club and apologize for any misconceptions.
Unfortunately, the discord was only made for the purpose of game night and it was supposed to be closed right after the event.
Please letâs try to be inclusive without having to put others down. Ultimately, SACC is a club that was made to unite people and to have a good time. If there is anyone that doesn't feel as though this is the case, please reach out and allow us to be aware of our shortcomings so that we can fix them.
