As spring quickly blooms around us, our toddler friends are invited to explore nomenclature related to the season such as different types of insects, flowers, and weather patterns🌦️ Spring is also a time when children are invited to explore increasingly complex works that include multiple steps or an extended understanding of initial topics covered such as grading primary colors instead of identical sorting 🎨 What a pleasure to share the joy and wonders of spring with them!

💡Casa Water Oak’s Electricity Study💡Our friends were curious about and learned where electricity comes from as well as how a circuit works! In true Montessori Fashion, Children built the circuits themselves and saw how the light turns on and off by using the switch.⚡️Our children are so curious about the world and a study like this answers so many of those questions that arise in those growing brains! Hands on learning for the win 💚

Pictured above are our casa juneberry pals were deeply focused as they used the didactic materials alone and with friends to learn more about the world around them 🌎 Whether it is geometry, biology, or anthropology, each child is able to find a work the find relateae and interesting leading to deep focus & concept generalization. 🧠 We can’t wait to see what they get up to when we return on Tuesday!

Among the hum of trays moving across shelves to tables, conversations at the snack table, and the quiet observation of our guides, you’ll hear something else—young voices joyfully repeating their favorite song, “Xin Nian Hao” (Happy New Year) 🧧 In our toddler community, learning is rooted in hands-on experience. Our guides thoughtfully adapt materials to reflect meaningful cultural moments while following each child’s developmental sequence. What was once playdough work becomes dumpling making, and language materials transform into opportunities to explore New Year traditions and family celebrations.
By bringing the world into the classroom, children engage more deeply with their work and begin to connect learning with real life. We are especially grateful to the families who join us in sharing their culture, enriching our environment in authentic and meaningful ways ❤️

In part 2 of our semester debrief, we head over to Casa, where you can see why our toddler friends spend so much time strengthening their hands for writing ✍️
Throughout the winter trimester, our Casa friends work diligently on character tracing and writing related to new year traditions and zodiacs🧧 Practicing with care and intention, they experience pride and joy as they see the outcome of their work 🤩 Moments like these remind us of the importance of offering children real, meaningful work—just as Dr. Montessori intended ❤️

Each year, BPM teachers attend what many consider our Montessori “Super Bowl,” The Montessori Event, a national conference where learning, connection, and professional growth come together through workshops, dialogue, and community.
This year, we had the opportunity to reconnect with peers and professors from WSMS, as well as colleagues from NYSMA, engaging in meaningful conversations about the evolving educational landscape in New York State. These exchanges continue to deepen our practice and strengthen our collective commitment to children.
Our team participated in a range of impactful workshops, including Building a WOW Montessori Brand, Empowering Oral Language Development, Understanding Neurodiversity through a Montessori Lens, Guiding with Grace, and Montessori in the City.
Experiences like these reinforce the importance of ongoing professional development. We return with renewed clarity, fresh perspective, and an even stronger commitment to thoughtfully supporting the children we serve.

To begin our semester debrief, we’re highlighting two favorite works from our toddler friends: hanging good luck symbols on the spring willow tree (银柳, yín liǔ) 🏮and learning to use chopsticks 🥢 Both materials support the development of fine motor skills and depth perception ✨ The use of red is intentional, as it symbolizes good luck in Chinese culture—often represented by the character 福 (fú), meaning “good fortune” 🧧Hanging items on the tree also builds the coordination needed for everyday tasks like hanging coats and bags, while practicing with chopsticks supports independence in feeding and strengthens the hands for future writing! ❤️

It’s spring break… do you know where your Montessori teachers are? 👀At the Montessori event, of course!
Each year, our teachers attend what many consider our Montessori “Super Bowl,” where learning, connection, and inspiration come together through workshops, meaningful conversations, and loving reunions with our peers & professors 💚😍 We return for the spring semester with fresh ideas, renewed energy, and an even deeper commitment to the children we serve. We can’t wait to see you in April!!
