.io Non-Fiction Translation Fellowship Season 2

Applications open March 1 – April 1, 2025 (GMT+8)! This fellowship, co-founded by the Cheng Shewo Memorial Fund, Duke Story Lab, and Frontline Fellowship, supports emerging translators of Chinese non-fiction into English. Three fellows will receive $1,500 grants, one-on-one mentorship, and publication opportunities. Selection is based on translation quality, feasibility, and applicant background. Results announced May 2025.

This Sunday afternoon, Accent Sister presents Shorts Collection of Mother Tongue Screening Series. The collection brings together eight films spanning Mandarin, Cantonese, English, Persian, Egyptian Arabic, Kazakh, Yiddish, and Swedish, exploring mother tongue across eras and formats—from the grainy intimacy of Super 8 to the frontiers of generative AI. Through encryption and decryption, love and curses, these films unravel the many layers of language and human emotion.

Following the final short film, Mellanrum (dir. Zhen Zhang), filmmaker and researcher Loke Zhang, the director’s son, will give a talk alongside a performance of Klar hjullåda | 琉璃轮箱 (Lucid Wheelbox) with his musician collaborator August.
