Meet Walter! Walter joined the Harmony Program at age 10 and became part of a community where he can learn, grow, and be surrounded by others who love playing music as much as he does.

"Harmony exposes kids - and even their families - to the joy of music and making music. This impact changes the lives of all who are a part of it for the better. To support Harmony is to support the arts, education, passion, and also families. Your gift will truly be a gift that keeps on giving." Karin, Walter's Mom

Meet Veronica! For seven years Veronica has worked with students from the Harmony Program as a Teaching Artist. During that time, her classroom has been a space where students can feel comfortable being themselves, finding confidence, connection, and joy through making music together.

"With in-school music programming disappearing, Harmony is filling an essential and gaping hole in the future generation's education.” - Veronica

With your help, Harmony can continue to fill the music gap and inspire students across New York City. Click the link in our bio and donate today! 💙🎵🎵

Meet Abigail — who started violin with Harmony in third grade, right after being diagnosed with dyslexia.

At the time, her confidence was low. School felt discouraging. She doubted herself constantly.

But when she joined Harmony, she found something new: a way to express herself, friends who lifted her up, and the confidence to step out of her shell.

That confidence didn’t stop at music — it followed her into her academics… all the way to programs at LaGuardia and Manhattan School of Music. This is what music can unlock in a child’s life.

This Giving Tuesday, help us open that door for the next student.

The Harmony Program is built on collaboration. Our Teaching Artists, students, and school partners play a vital role in what we do.

At one of our partner schools in Queens, the principal described the impact of our work in these words:

“Introducing a full drumming program was a great step forward for our school, because it allowed students to build on the rhythm skills they learned through bucket drumming last year and apply them to real instruments. This upgrade not only deepened their musical understanding, but also boosted creativity, teamwork, and confidence—helping our music program grow from a fun introduction to percussion into a more complete and inspiring musical experience.”

Meet Tamika — a Harmony Program student who grew up through the program… and is now one of our Associate Board members.

She started cello in second grade, quiet and small next to an instrument almost as tall as she was.
But from the moment she held it, something clicked.

With daily classes, teachers who believed in her, and a community that pushed her to be brave, Tamika found her voice — not just as a musician, but as a person.

Today, she’s back with us — helping lead the next generation of Harmony students, and showing exactly what “Potential Unlocked” looks like when a child is supported from the very beginning.

This Giving Tuesday, help us open that door for the next child.

Meet Matthew — a young violinist who dreams of becoming a soloist with the Philharmonic.
Music is his anchor. It helps him focus, find joy, and express himself in ways that make him feel more creative and confident.

What he loves most is playing with others — the friendships, the teamwork, the feeling of being part of something bigger than himself.

And when he steps off stage after performing? “Let’s go — I did it.”
This is what music can unlock in a child’s life: confidence, connection, and moments they’ll carry forever.

This Giving Tuesday, help us open that door for the next child.

Meet Emmanuel, a third grader who picked up the clarinet halfway through the year — and took to it instantly.

When we asked him how it feels to learn a new piece for the first time, he gave one word: “Magical.”

That’s what music can unlock in a child’s life — confidence, curiosity, and moments that make them feel proud of what they can do.

This Giving Tuesday, help us open that door for the next child.

Today we’re kicking off our Giving Tuesday campaign: Potential Unlocked — showing what music can open up in a child’s life.

Over the next few days, we’ll be sharing real stories from Harmony Program students — the shy first notes, the tiny breakthroughs, the moments when a kid realizes “I can do this.”

These stories remind us why we show up:
because music doesn’t just teach scales or rhythms.

It creates friendships
It unlocks confidence, focus, belonging, joy —
Qualities that stay with kids for life.

This campaign is led by Harmony’s Associate Board, and we’re excited to share these moments with you.

Stay tuned for the first student story.
And if you’re moved by what you see, we’d love your support this Giving Tuesday.
