Mindset Monday
Have you ever been faced with a door that closed in your face?
Here's a little story...
This past weekend I had the incredible opportunity to sit and listen to some amazing storytellers. Men of color who overcame some incredible odds to become successful businessmen, doctors, poets, and musicians.
One of the men speaking was telling us about a time that he got laid off from a job that he worked really hard to get.
He had the choice to look at it like a set back, or as an opportunity. What did he choose? He took it as an opportunity to create his own business and do the things he couldn't do in his other job.
Here is an exercise to help you with your mindset today:
Visualize yourself walking down a long hall. There are many doors in this hallway. Maybe one of the doors behind you was an opportunity that just closed in your face. That's okay.
Keep walking down this hall. Look at the doors, they are all different colors, with different k***s. There are many options. Suddenly a door opens.
Visualize yourself walking to that door. What color is it? Does it open in or out? How do you feel standing in front of that open door?
Now, visualize what you want to see behind that door. Visualize what you want your next opportunity to look like. Imagine yourself stepping through that door. How do you feel? What do you see?
Snap a mental picture. Walk down the hall, to this door, and through this door, as many times as you need, until you see this opportunity come to life.
This is a mindset shift. Leave those closed doors and missed opportunities behind you. The possibilities in front of you are endless!
