May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and I’m honored to serve as moderator for Shifting From Survival to Strength — a mental health wellness gathering created specifically for women of color in partnership with Queens Borough Hall and The Queens Crown Collective.
As a therapist, educator, and Black Caribbean/Afro-Latina woman, conversations like these matter deeply to me. Too many women are surviving silently while carrying stress, anxiety, burnout, grief, trauma, caregiving responsibilities, and the pressure to always be “strong.” This space was intentionally created to have honest conversations about mental health, healing, access, and community support without shame or stigma.
I’m excited to join an incredible panel of licensed professionals as we discuss depression, anxiety, emotional wellness, and what it means to move from simply surviving to living with more support, intention, and strength.
If you are in Queens or the NYC area, I’d love for you to join us. 💚

This year stretched me in ways I didn’t expect. There were moments of joy, moments of grief, moments where I had to slow down, sit with myself, and choose what actually matters. I learned a lot about boundaries, courage, healing, and grace, especially when things felt uncertain. As Christmas arrives, I’m feeling grateful for the people who held me, checked on me, prayed for me, laughed with me, and gave me space when I needed it. Wishing you all peace, rest, love, and moments of joy this Christmas. 🤍

Lately, I’ve been thinking about how we’ve learned to treat exhaustion like a badge of honor.
I wrote recently about what it means to lead differently — to notice fatigue before it breaks us, not after.
Rest isn’t a reward for surviving the work. It’s part of the work.
🙏🏾How are you giving yourself permission to slow down this season?

This weekend, I had the honor of officiating a wedding rooted in real love. Not the filtered version we often see—but the kind that grows with intention, patience, and deep commitment. 💍🖤
As a therapist, I know how much healing and unlearning can go into building a healthy relationship. It’s sacred work. And standing at that altar was a reminder that love, when nurtured well, becomes a soft place to land.
To bear witness as two people chose each other—with their eyes open and hearts ready—was a gift.
Cheers to all who are building love that lasts... layer by layer. ✨

“Judith Jamison, a majestic dancer who became an international star as a member of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and who directed the troupe for more than two decades, building it into the most successful modern dance company in the country, died on Saturday in Manhattan. She was 81.” NYT
I’m speechless. There is no way you can be a dancer, especially in NYC, and not know this power house, icon, innovator. We truly lost a remarkable woman today. RIP Ms. Jamison

Where do I even begin. This has been such a long and hard journey. I’m grateful for those that have cried and rejoiced with me throughout this process. When I walked away from the possibility of being a Psych Nurse, I didn’t realize God had something bigger, and how deeply my own healing would be part of this journey. This has been extremely hard. Saying “No” to a lot of things and people did not come easy. I was also tasked with working with my students who were deeply impacted by the pandemic. I didn’t realize how much the skills I was learning as a Marriage and Family Therapist would be needed inside and outside of the classroom. I’m blessed to be a part of two professions that inform one another perfectly. Indeed God’s plans are BIGGER than our own. I am an educator, therapist, artist and social activist. My heart is indeed full and I’m so grateful that even when Nyack University (Alliance) closed down last year, God still made a way for me/us to make it to the finish line. I’m excited about what the future holds, and I definitely know who holds my future. Here’s to BIGGER 🥂

“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
and Wisdom to know the difference.” Looking forward to ALL of God’s goodness and blessings in 2024 🥂
