See the city's art for free with 'Artwell Guide'
It's often said the best things in life are free, and in the case of the city's thriving art scene, this happens to be true -- but you have to know where to go.

Chad Kleitsch, a longtime friend and a photographer I once represented at my former photography gallery (1999-2005), has been using scanning technology - scanography - for nearly 20 years. Scanning flowers, sheer nightgowns, handwritten letters, scores of music...the object is placed on the scanner and backlit with a high intensity light that penetrates through the object as though it were a sheet of film or slide, reproducing an effect like that of a stained-glass window. If you find yourself up in Hudson, NY, he's having an of this work at Carrie Haddad Gallery from April 24 - June 9.

For fun, and to celebrate the great times we had back in my gallery days, he scanned an old exhibition mailer I created in 2002 using a Tupperware sandwich container to announce Richard Caldicott's show of still life photographs he made of used Tupperware boxes and lids. *
Over the years, I've heard from many who received that mailer, how they've kept it and continue to use it to this day, just like Chad seems be doing too. *

I read an article recently where a few art advisors were asked which artists they believed were on the rise and worth paying close attention to. Ahem... had I been interviewed 😘 ...ahem...I would have said Jordan Casteel. Her use of color, brush stroke and most interesting (imho) are the areas of the painting she chooses to leave incomplete thus directing the viewer to see her subjects more clearly or the areas of the painting she wishes you to focus on. Not to mention the apparent trust or comfort level emanating from her subjects.
