The Scudder Intervention Services Foundation, Inc. 'SISFI', The Su***de Institute, Bronx Su***de Network, NYC Su***de Council and our Partners invites you to our annual Bronx boroughwide “A Mind Free Of/From Su***de Day” on June 8th 2019 to collectively unify in normalizing the conversation and experiences of addiction, depression, loneliness, trauma and su***de for all Bronxites as well as promote mental health services for the conditions. For the past five years we have seen a significant increase in su***de cases here in The Bronx than other boroughs and we attribute that to a number of life challenges, cultural factors and social economics. We are asking everyone to join in the effort wherever they are, at home, school, work, church and in the general public to let this day be known as a safe day of humanizing the experiences of people who are struggling, suffering, hurting and hiding because of it without judgment, labels or prejudice.

We have created attached promo posters to help spread the unified message so people can use them in their environments as needed and not have to worry about creating something. If you want to create your own posters with the message that’s fine as long as it sticks to the theme. More posters will be available leading up to the day. We are gathering on the Event Lawn located on Crotona Avenue and Claremont Parkway from 10am-3pm for those who want to come out and join us in the public’s eye for the effort. We are inviting providers, agencies and community based-orgs to table and promote support services and resources so people can walk away with tangible solutions and resources.

Please RSVP at sisfi.eventbrite.com to confirm your attendance and support. We are seeking donation of 500 bottled water and juices for the event so please contact us at 917.651.1889 if interested in donating them.

Last year over 200 organizations participated in the NYC Mind Free Of/From Su***de Day and this year we’re doing one specifically for The Bronx due to having the highest cases in all five boroughs. This year’s NYC Day will be July 20th again and we look forward to having you with us in support of the efforts. Please share and help promote it.

Thank you very much and have a great day one breath at a time and embrace and enjoy it. We apprecilove your patronage and look forward to serving you with more quality humane, health, psychological and emotional programs, services and resources. One Love.

On Aug. 19th, 2pm-6pm, SISFI, The ***de Institute, NYC Su***de Council, NY Human Suffering and Wellness Coalition "NYHSWC" and The Bronx Awareness and Response Team are conducting another Su***de and Opioid Community Outreach Day at the corner of White Plains Road and 233rd Street in The Bronx. Our Community Awareness Outreach Days are held across the city to meet people in open public places to share information, education, resources and support about and Su***de so as to create safe places and ways for them to open up and seek help without judgement, prejudice or bias. There are many myths and stigmas about su***de and depression that people are not aware of nor understand, and we are here to help destigmatize them with knowledge, experience and resources. We have seen an increase in completed su***des, depression and self-medication cases in the Bronx, and we anticipate a very challenging school year ahead.

There are many people who hear the word “opioid” but don’t know what it means nor what they are. Most people think it’s just he**in, but it’s more than that and in more This doesn't help the fact that we have an opioid epidemic on our hands and need to effectively address it as so many lives are affected by it. For us to truly make an effective impact on the su***de, depression and opioid epidemic, we have to bring the conversation and awareness out on the street and meet people where they are. There will be various informational hand-outs on the topics as well as our team of crisis responders, su***de survivors, mental health practitioners, clergy leaders and advocates ready and able to engage with people in dialog and support. Su***de and Depression are faceless enigmas that affects more people that you know because it’s very well masked and hidden. You never know who is hurting these days, and how the hurt is manifesting in self-harming, self-medicating, self-destructive, life-threatening and painful ways. If you see us, stop by and say hi, and support the cause. The more of us together the better the effort and greater the impacts.

Join us and be a part of the effort of raising awareness and creating safe places and dialog for people to express their pain before losing or giving up their life. We look forward to having you with us. Find out more about us and our work at the Scudder Intervention Services Foundation, Inc. at sisfi.org, The Su***de Institute at su***deinstitute.org and NYC Su***de Council at su***decouncil.org. Thank you very much and have a beautiful day one breath at a time. We apprecilove your patronage and look forward to serving you with more quality human, health, psychological and emotional programs, services and resources. One Love.

Couple caught in ‘financial spiral’ jump to their deaths 07/28/2017

***de. Couple caught in ‘financial spiral’ jump to their deaths. The bodies of 53-year-old chiropractor Glenn Scarpelli and his wife, 50-year-old, Patricia Colant, were found in the middle of the street on 33rd Street between Park and Madison avenues in Murray Hill after the pair jumped from the ninth-floor window of a 17-story corner office building on Madison Avenue at about 5:45 a.m., police said. Glenn, whose office was on the same floor of the building where the couple jumped, titled the su***de note found in his pocket, “WE HAD A WONDERFUL LIFE.” It was typed on a piece of white paper.
His wife also had a su***de note in her pocket that read, “in sum and substance,” according to a source, “‘Our kids are upstairs, please take care of them.’”

My God. This is beyond heartbreaking, tragic, disturbing and sad. Just today I was presenting on the challenges and impacts of the healthcare Systems of Care, and the need for better quality of services and support for people. Geez. My condolences to their family and loved ones, especially their children. I don't know how young they are but this will sink in and hurt deeply. How do you recover from this kind of loss. Two parents at the same time. Only Jesus. Let's keep the children uplifted in thoughts and prayers for healing and recovery. May their souls find rest in peace. ***deologist

The Scudder Intervention Services Foundation, Inc. “SISFI” and The Su***de Institute's "Understanding Emotional Pain" for ***de Intervention, Prevention and Postvention. Emotional Pain causes such deep human suffering that many times we misdiagnose a person's suffering as physical pain when by nature it is emotional pain manifesting in physical ways. Here are some guidelines on Emotional Pain that will help you get a better understanding of it and what experiences are associated with it. The pain is very real, and can be very disabling on every level. What you see as self-harming ways and behaviors may not even be known to or cared about by the person experiencing the pain. Some people go to any length to ease their suffering and pain, sometimes in silence.

~Can cause depression, hopelessness, anger, frustration, withdrawal, isolation, insomnia, weight loss/gain, changes in behaviors/mood, physical health conditions/complications
~Can be caused by bad experiences, broken heart, loss of loved one or pet, abuse (physical, s*xual, psychological), rejection
~Can’t be medicated and treated like physical pain
~Never underestimate the impacts on the human condition – heart, mind, body, soul, spirit. Can be terrifying/uncontrollable
~Some people use alcohol, drugs, w**d, explicit s*xual behaviors to mask and/or suppress it. Causes accidental death/overdose
~Can be much worse than physical pain. Everywhere hurts
~Don’t judge what you don’t understand. Learn more about it
~Seek professional help to address it and impacts on your life

At the end of the day, the person in pain is living an experience of discomfort on many levels and often times their actions are to ease the pain or cope with it. So before we judge people for what we see them do or are doing, let's take a step back, take a deep breath, and ask, how are you?
No one should ever have to suffer alone or in silence from/with Emotional Pain. Find out more about Emotional Pain Informed Care at emotionalpaininformedcare.com.

SISFI's Monthly Human Wellness Workshops 05/08/2017

G'day. Mr. invites you to his workshop “Living With and Overcoming ***de Ideations,” and signs/symptoms of , and subliminal messages that we often hear but never understand what they mean at 6:30pm tonight. He will be addressing the ways emotional pain can affect our lives causing distress, depression, addiction, abuse, health complications, isolation, self-harm, reckless behaviors and disabilities, and how to manage, cope, recover and heal when the heart is hurting from the pain, the mind is struggling with the pain and the body is trying to keep up to make sense of all that is happening. It can be hard to stay focused in and under distress and duress from emotional pain so what do you do, who do you turn to and how to you seek help, or not to alleviate it. The workshop is FREE, and open to all. Please share with your networks and register here https://sisfi.eventbrite.com/ if you plan on attending. Light food and refreshments will be provided. We look forward to having you with us.

~SISFI

SISFI, The Su***de Institute, The Su***de Council and North Bronx National Council of Negro Women Child Development Center invites you to a workshop on “Living With and Overcoming and ***de Ideations” presented by Mr. Brett A. Scudder, Su***de Attempt Survivor and Crisis and Behavioral Intervention and Response Director/Trainer at SISFI and The Su***de Institute. He will be presenting signs of depression, su***de, emotional pain, and subliminal messages that we often hear but never understand what they mean. He will also be addressing the ways emotional pain can affect our lives causing distress, depression, addiction, abuse, health complications, isolation, self-harm, reckless behaviors and disabilities, and how to manage, cope, recover and heal when the heart is hurting from the pain, the mind is struggling with the pain and the body is trying to keep up to make sense of all that is happening. It can be hard to stay focused in and under distress and duress from emotional pain so what do you do, who do you turn to and how to you seek help, or not to alleviate it. Mr. Scudder has lived through these experiences and know of them quite well in how they can impact the overall human experience, life and being. Not all trauma have emotional pain with it, and so his focus is on the emotional pain that triggers depression and su***de ideation.

The human experiences of emotional pain and heartbreaks impacts affects everyone in different ways and on different levels that are sometimes overlooked in understanding and diagnosing root cause of physical aches and pains we feel. Too often we expect people to just snap out of their pain and get on with life because it sometimes scares us when seeing how they are affected by it. This isn’t as simple as many of us would like it to be, people can’t just snap out of an emotionally painful experience that may have traumatized them leaving them crippled, disabled and feeling helpless. They can’t express their pain in ways that may be comfortable and articulate, proper, manner able to our comfort and needs. Emotional pain cannot be medicated like physical pain, and so when a person is experiencing it their entire body can hurt from the sole of their head to bottom of their feet and taking pain meds still doesn’t ease the inner turmoil they are experiencing. Hurt people hurt people when they don’t understand, can control or don’t care who or why they are hurting others because their pain is more than they can understand or manage. The pain can break and stress you out in disabling ways.

There are many high functioning depressed people who are very good at their jobs and the work they do, but at the end of the day goes home to suffer and struggle with/in their emotional pain and distress with no Love, support and care. They deny being depressed because of fear of what people will think, say and feel about them. They deny being depressed because they don’t understand what depression and the associated moods and conditions really are. They deny being depressed because they think it’s ok to live and feel like that. The stigmas about mental health and mental illness forces many people into denial and hiding because they can’t or don’t want to face the truth about their conditions. This is not a healthy way for anyone to live and shouldn’t be afraid of their truth.

Let’s come together to learn, embrace and heal so we are not retraumatizing and revictimizing each other when in pain, but help them cope and overcome it. Join us to learn safe tips to cope with life during crisis and distress. So many people are living in a state of crisis and distress and don't know how to get out of it or even stay sane through it all. The crisis may pass, or extend for longer periods than imagined, but will you be ok through it all, or will you pass away with/from it.

It's ***dePreventionDay. Join SISFI, the Su***de Institute, The Su***de Center, the NY Human Suffering and Wellness Coalition "NYHSWC" and The Su***de Council and organizations, survivors and advocates around the world in recognizing the day by raising awareness, promoting resources, services and support for people in crisis and distress, and for those who lost loved ones to su***de. There are too many people hiding behind masks with hurt, pain, rejection, disappointments and regrets in fear of people knowing how they are feeling, hurting and struggling, and this is an unhealthy, unhappy and very dangerous way to live. This isn't living, it's existing, and isn't how we were born to be and live. We all need to live, strive and feel happy about our life in whatever ways we feel most comfortable and happy with it, not just existing and being here. If one of us is hurting from/with abuse, victimization, trauma and/or emotional distress, we all are hurting as the energy of human connections bond us together. It’s better to live in peace within self than be in distress living to please others who don’t even care about your well-being. The choice is yours on how you want to face the challenges and struggles, but know that there is help, support, services and Love available for you if you overcome the fear of seeking help.

Here is the messaging we are promoting for people to find strength, hope, help, support, healing and recovery as we all face the challenges, hardships and struggles of life:

~ No More Masks or Hiding Pain
~ No More Suffering in/from Fear
~ No Shame in Talking about Struggles
~ No More Revictimization or Retraumatization
~ No More Suffering Alone and/or in Silence
~ It’s Time to Heal, Recover, Live and be in Peace
~ Together we Rise, Heal, Support, Recover, Overcome
~ You are Beautiful, Special, Loved and Needed

Let’s break stigmas, myths and change paradigm.
