At least one resident of the Green-Wood Cemetery had his beginnings at school which was formerly Lumpkin's Jail. His name is Sidney Evans and he died on December 5, 1876 at the Brooklyn Theater.

The first image is Jesus, and at first glance, it reminded me of old Mesopotamian statues; the closeness of hands, the minimalistic details, and overall stance of the figure. The statue of Jesus is one of a kind and stands on a grave of family name that originates in Scotland.

147 years ago, it was a Tuesday like no other, when the Brooklyn Theater Fire engulfed in a fire and took the lives of almost 300 persons, many of whom were the sole breadwinners of their families.

On this day, in 1657, Jacques Cortelyou petitioned for settlement of New Utrecht. He may have had a slave as an assistant while surveying the land. After surveying, he became one of the nineteen patentees.
