Big things are happening in Minnesota! 📚✨

After a successful pilot year, Minnesota Literacy Labs is expanding across the state through The Reading Institute’s University Tutoring Collaborative.

Last year, approximately 50 teacher candidates from two Minnesota universities used Reading Ready to provide evidence-based literacy tutoring to young readers. This year, eight additional institutions are expected to join, with more than 500 future educators participating statewide! 🎉

Through this model, teacher candidates gain hands-on experience grounded in the science of reading while young students receive targeted support to strengthen foundational literacy skills.

With support from the JAB Foundation, TRI will provide Reading Ready materials and training, implementation support, technical assistance, and access to our Science of Reading Intro Course.

We’re excited to see this community grow and reach even more future teachers and young readers across Minnesota. 💙

We were proud to join literacy researchers and educators from around the world at the 33rd Annual Conference of the Society for the Scientific Study of Reading!

The Reading Institute's Founder Katie Pace Miles, presented alongside Rhonda Raines of Ohio State University and Nicole Patton Terry of Florida State University, sharing research examining child and tutor factors related to reading outcomes in a structured literacy tutoring program.

Grateful to be part of this inspiring global community working to advance the science of reading and improve outcomes for students everywhere. 💙

We're thrilled to welcome 50 university partners to The Reading Institute's University Tutoring Collaborative for SY2026-2027! 🎉

Through TRI's university tutoring model, future teachers gain hands-on experience delivering high-impact, evidence-based literacy tutoring to striving readers while deepening their understanding of reading science and structured literacy. At the same time, elementary students receive the targeted support they need to build strong reading skills.

We're excited to welcome both our new and continuing partners to our growing network. Together we will prepare the next generation of educators while expanding access to effective literacy support for students.

As Chalkbeat reports, New York State has proposed new requirements to strengthen how future teachers are prepared to teach reading, with a greater focus on evidence-based instruction and the science of reading.

We’re proud that our founder, Katie Pace Miles, Ph.D., has contributed to this effort through her role on the New York State Path Forward Steering Committee.

The Reading Institute is honored to share our evidence-based tutoring programs and Science of Reading Intro Course with over 50 universities this coming year to help prepare future teachers!
