The oldest widely recognized description of Stolas comes from Johann Weyer's Pseudomonarchia Daemonum (1577), where he appears as a great prince, first as a night raven, then transforming into a man to teach astronomy, herbs, and precious stones, commanding 26 legions.

This established his core traits, though he's often depicted as an owl in later works, likely due to the "night raven" description and illustrations from sources like the Dictionnaire Infernal (1863).
