HAIL THE KING: Eliud Kipchoge makes history 10/12/2019

A world record was broken today. I’m sure his legs could use a little Trigger Point magic. A sub 2 hour marathon...I’d say he entered “the ZONE” and emerged at the finish line wondering what light year he ran through. Mind. Blown. 🤯

HAIL THE KING: Eliud Kipchoge makes history HAIL THE KING - Eliud Kipchoge makes history becoming the first man to run a full marathon below two hours. Completes the INEOS 1:59 Challenge in Vienna in 1...

Do you treat runners and they complain of toe numbness? You’ve cleared their lumbar spine, you’ve treated their posterior chain but they are still complaining of numbness...🤔

Running shoes need to be changed after every 300 to 350 miles due to deformation of the shoe last and the materials that make up the support.

I always encourage my runners to get a proper running shoe assessment at a store that offers gait assessment on treadmills with knowledgeable sales people. Gait changes can happen from season to season, injury to injury and they all change your compensatory biomechanical patterns.

If the shoe fits, change the lace pattern (if numbness still occurs)!!

This is the text you get from your high school female track athlete with ITB pain shooting into her lateral knee. Her coach said to “just run through it”.

I’m all for moving through discomfort (how else do you find your tipping point of success??) not through pushing through injury pain! That’s our S.O.S. System lighting up saying “not right now...we can’t go there because I’m trying to protect you from further injury, so....🛑 STOP RIGHT NOW!”

Assessment: ITB trigger points referring pain to the outside of the knee. Muscle dysfunction of the TFL causing significant weakness of the lateral pelvis resulting in hip drop and poor stability.

Treatment: 3 visits with trigger point dry needling of the TFL, ITB, Vastus Lateralis + proprioceptive learning to lean forward in single leg stance so she can “feel” her center of gravity moving forward + drills to fall forward during her running stride and banded lateral squat walks and clam shells.

Result: A FIRST PLACE SMASHFEST!

It was an honor to have been asked to speak at the first annual Atlantic Symposium this weekend on my mastery and passion in Trigger Point Dry Needling. Sharing my work with fellow colleagues and opening them up to the power of our fascial system was met with great enthusiasm and excitement. 😊

58 yr old male runner...just back into the 5k racing circuit...wants to qualify for Masters in 2019. I always ask for a video of the running gait and evaluate the patients functional limitations to correlate them to their complaints/symptoms. Here is the video and my observational findings:

1. Right lower limb crosses through midline causing the Right Adductors to become overused. Pt complaint: “RIGHT GROIN PAIN”

2. When landing on the left leg, the right hip drops revealing weakness of the Left gluteus medius. Pt complaint: “LEFT LOW BACK PAIN”

3. Heel striker!! He’s decelerating every step!!

Fascinating correlation to his pain complaints just by watching his patterns during the running gait.
