The Women’s Initiative at Columbia Institute of Global Politics will now be named the Ann F. Kaplan Women’s Initiative, in recognition of a transformational gift from Ann Kaplan’s family honoring her decades-long impact at Columbia and her commitment to advancing women’s rights and opportunities.

Ann Kaplan spent so much of her life - professional, personal, as a Columbia Trustee - focused on women. And now, the Women’s Initiative at Columbia Institute of Global Politics will be named in her honor.

With her family’s generous gift endowment, the Ann F. Kaplan Women’s Initiative at Columbia Institute of Global Politics will be able to build sustained, ambitious programming and drive research that connects academic insights to real-world policy challenges facing women around the world.

Today, we're pleased to announce essential investments in our Morningside campus and the undergraduate student experience.

These commitments, which will begin immediately and will be fully implemented over the next 2-3 years, will strengthen both the academic and day-to-day experience of our students. Read the message from Acting President Claire Shipman and Provost Angela Olinto: https://president.columbia.edu/news/investing-undergraduate-experience

A website with more detail will be launched in the coming weeks. As an overview, planned enhancements include:

—Expanded fitness and recreation space
—Expanded dining access and capacity
—New and renovated student spaces
—Library enhancements
—Expanded student health services
—Academic and instruction investments

These investments represent important first steps to address issues in areas that students, faculty, alumni, and staff have clearly identified as priorities. They will become part of a broader, long-term commitment to strengthening the experience of all our students and all who contribute to Columbia’s academic and campus life.
