Personal finance isn't all about numbers; it's also about behavioral and emotional factors that influence financial decision-making.
In Baruch College's Financial Psychology course, led by Clemente Diaz, adjunct faculty member and associate director at the Starr Career Development Center, students learn how emotions, behavior, and life experiences shape financial decisions and how psychological insight is an essential skill for advisors in today’s financial services industry.
“Financial decisions are rarely just rational—they’re shaped by emotion, experience, and personal values,” Diaz said. “Students are taught how to recognize and respond to those human factors, which is critical to building trust and delivering effective guidance.”

Wesley Archer (BBA ’98) (right) proves that anything is possible, even if it is improbable. 🛩️
Archer's appetite for risk led him to pursue a career of various ventures, including launching his own consulting firm, ALaS Consulting LLC, co-leading an expedition to the Arctic, and even cattle ranching.
His advice to Baruch students? "Find where change is happening—it creates voids that need expertise." 💬

Baruch College's Association of Students of the Dominican Republic (ASEDOM) hosted its first CUNY-wide Quisqueya Conference, fostering networking and mentorship opportunities for students and alumni with industry leaders. 🎉
The one-day conference aimed to empower, educate, and uplift both Dominican and non-Dominican students by highlighting the value of cultural identity in professional spaces through professional development workshops, business showcases, and cultural dance celebrations. ✨
“Planning the Quisqueya Conference for nearly one year took a lot of work, labor, love, and passion,” said Karla Fernandez (BA ’26), event organizer and secretary of ASEDOM. “I am incredibly happy and grateful that we were able to make this happen at Baruch. As CUNY students, we are worthy of stepping into any room we enter.” 💬
