I had a lot of experience acting and improvising, and this experience taught me that when things were really flowing onstage, there was no better feeling. As an anxious/worrier-type perfectionist person, it was a tremendous feeling to not be thinking about myself or about the future and to just be creating with my fellow actors.

I knew there was a way to get more of this feeling in my everyday life. So after earning my doctorate in drama and theatre studies, I published my research on the connections between improvisation and cognitive science/psychology, Theatrical Improvisation, Consciousness, and Cognition. I went back to school to receive my Master’s in Education and published an academic chapter on how improv can be used as a guiding principle to foster creativity in classrooms.
