Dr. Amra Sabic-El-Rayess and her team are thrilled to announce that we've been awarded another Innovation grant from the Department of Homeland Security to continue our vital work in preventing hate and violence. This new program is focused on protective storytelling for educators and educational staff to learn about strategies to engage in story creation, as well as activating educator voices to amplify protective factors against targeted violence. ✨ Together, we can make positive change happen through education! Reimagine Resilience is now featured on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s TVTP Grantee Results website! Reimagine Resilience is an innovative professional training program designed for educators and education professionals to prevent violent expression by nurturing resilience as an integral capacity in their students. We have trained over 2,100 educators and key stakeholders with registrants coming from 47 U.S. states. Learners receive a certificate of participation from Teachers College, Columbia University after completing the program. You can learn more about here: https://www.dhs.gov/tvtp-grantee-results. 💡Educational Displacement - a risk factor for radicalization?

💡Youth who radicalize often first experience Educational Displacement in school. They might feel a loss of attachment to or recognition by teachers, peers, colleagues, community members, and society. When we fail to provide educational content that addresses a range of needs and engages individuals in our educational spaces, the alternative content undermining formal education is likely to fill the void.

Out of 300 students we surveyed across 40 states, only 40% agreed they feel a sense of belonging in their school.

🔸 What does it mean to have a "sense of belonging"? Why is it important?

A "sense of belonging" is an attachment to one's community, peers, colleagues, and society, preventing isolation and educational displacement. A sense of belonging is a protective factor in preventing hate.
