A second round of dialogue involving bandits and community representatives has reportedly been held in the Kankara axis of Katsina State.
Bandit leader Kachalla Ado Alieru was reportedly the keynote speaker at the meeting. The development comes months after an earlier dialogue, which reportedly failed after the bandits allegedly violated agreements reached during the first round.
Ado Alieru has previously been linked to bandit activities in Zamfara State, including allegations that members of his group planted IEDs around the Tsafe axis.
The latest talks are being closely watched amid hopes of reducing insecurity and establishing lasting peace.

Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has called on the Nigerian government to place greater emphasis on dialogue and non-military approaches in addressing the countryโs security challenges, including the conflict involving the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Speaking in a recent interview, Gumi said he would support dialogue with IPOB if its members were willing to lay down their arms and come to the negotiating table with the Federal Government.
โDialogue can bring peace,โ Gumi said, stressing that violence should not be the objective. He also advocated greater use of non-kinetic measures, including investment in infrastructure, education, healthcare and other social services.
Gumi further questioned whether continued heavy military spending alone could resolve Nigeriaโs insecurity, arguing that the government should consider alternative approaches alongside security operations.
His comments have generated renewed debate over the role of military action, political engagement and dialogue in addressing Nigeriaโs separatist and wider security challenges.
