2019: THE YEAR IN REVIEW
The mission of Community Partners is to enable HBS alumni to participate in volunteer efforts to promote excellence in nonprofit leadership in Connecticut through pro bono consulting, education, grant awards and related initiatives that provide a rewarding opportunity to work together to benefit our community. We recognize that our success depends on the efforts and contributions of our volunteers. We would like to express our appreciation to the 41 volunteers who helped to make 2019 another successful year.To learn more about our recent accomplishments, see our 2019 annual report.

Highlights:

Consulting: The demand for Community Partners consulting services throughout Connecticut continued to be strong: Community Partners completed 11 projects. Clients included agencies focused on closing the achievement gap; caring for people with complex illnesses; preserving endangered animals; and providing confidential help to men, women and children who have experienced sexual assault. 2020 began with 11 projects either underway or about to begin.

Brainstorming/Working Sessions: In 2019, our brainstorming initiative served two clients. The topics included identifying the funding and organization needed to continue growth and identifying ways to make an innovative online platform more self-sustaining financially. In addition, we held a series of working sessions for three clients seeking to develop strategic plans and improve a mission statement.

Operation Match: Our Operation Match program continued to help HBS alumni join the boards of participating Connecticut nonprofit organizations.

Awards: Community Partners awarded the 2019 Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management (SPNM) scholarships to Jason Jakubowski, President and Chief Executive Officer of Foodshare, and Novelette Peterkin, Chief Executive Officer of The Carver Foundation of Norwalk. On the receiving end, Community Partners was inducted into Fairfield County’s Community Foundation Center for Nonprofit Excellence Hall of Fame in recognition of our ongoing commitment to strengthening Fairfield County’s nonprofit sector. Community Partners volunteer Kathy Smith ’80 was recognized by the New Canaan Community Foundation for outstanding work with Future 5 in Stamford.

Events: Community Partners held an event at the Greenwich Historical Society’s new campus in Cos Cob to spotlight our regional HBS alumni who have volunteered their time, expertise and energy to help maximize nonprofits’ capabilities and effectiveness in achieving their missions.
