“The prefrontal cortex (PFC) plays a central role in cognitive control functions, and dopamine in the PFC modulates cognitive control, thereby influencing attention, impulse inhibition, prospective memory, and cognitive flexibility.”
Alcohol shuts down this part of your brain.

What is grey area drinking?
“Gray area drinking (GAD) is that murky space somewhere between social and destructive drinking. Unfortunately, slipping into gray area drinking is much easier to do than most people think—especially when you consider the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) defines heavy drinking for men as four drinks on any day or 14+ drinks a week, and for women as three drinks on any day or 7+ drinks a week[1].”
IMO, grey area drinking is incredibly detrimental because it can persist for several years before people make the decision to stop—you’re not bad enough to go to rehab, but drinking is holding you back in many ways, even if you can’t see it. 👀
5 Signs of Grey Area Drinking 🪧
1️⃣You silently have anxiety about your drinking.
2️⃣Your drinking often doesn’t look problematic to those around you.
3️⃣You drink between two extremes.
4️⃣You can stop drinking and have taken time off—even weeks or months—but you always go back with avengence.
5️⃣You go between ignoring the voice that says “I feel better when I don’t”, and deciding that you’re overthinking and you need to just “live a little.”
Do you want to end this cycle?
