Aasma Mehdi here again! After leaving Al-Iman school, I could not forget my teachers who had taught me not just class lessons but life lessons as well. Some I would just hang out with during lunchtime/break time to earn extra credit points or just chit chat as it gave me a peace of mind as a teenager. I had realized how important Mental Health was for our community as the there was a lack of awareness. Therefore, I completed my Masters in Mental Health Counseling and currently, I’m in my dissertation phase for my PhD.

My name is Aasma Mehdi (AKA Aasma Razvi). I attended Al-Iman school from ‘06-‘08. Growing up as a female Muslim, my parents had enrolled me in Al-Iman for it’s Islam friendly environment and studies. Honestly, it was not the best of my teen years, however, now I look back and recall on all the memories - from being a teachers pet (as everyone used to say), being called ‘staples’ because I would have everything in my back pack, to the stress of keeping my grades up, staying a prefect straight A student. Surah’s that Br. Waziry made us memorize, and the religion Sr. Nilofer taught us, I am passing on to my son today.
Al-Iman did not just teach me my religion, but I was able to take away how to be a better human being. Off course one does not realize it in the moment, but yes I have become who I am today because of my experiences in Al-Iman.

Salam Al-Iman School Alumni. My name is Zuher Hussain Khan I went to Al-Iman from 1999-2006. Growing up in such an amazing environment truly was a blessing. We all grow up someday and I am proud to say that I grew up in one of the best schools in New York. So many memories so many great teachers. I remember each day getting on the bus and reciting the Quran every morning with my peers. I will never forget praying with my friends every day after lunch and then who can forget Jummah prayers every week. I never forget my elementary school days. Whenever I look at an old year book I am transported into a different time and wow where do the years go. Today I am a film producer working in the Hollywood film industry always remembering my roots and where I came from Al-Iman school. My best wishes to all of the Alumni.

Alumni of Al-Iman School, NYC

We started off as a small group of graduates that gradually grew as the years went by. We created life long friendships and bonds as well as memories and accomplishments. We walked through the Al-Iman School doors young and full of hope. We tried our very best to be the best we could be and when the time came we left the classroom seats, lunchroom spots, coveted lockers and hallways to embark on new adventures.

Now it is time to reunite! Share memories, laugh and reminisce on moments Al-Iman Alumni’s can relate to and also share what adventures our footsteps led to as we left the Al-Iman door’s when we did.
