*****EMERGENT RELIEF GRANTED*****RELIEF GRANTED*****
Hello and Happy Thanksgiving! Yesterday I had my hearing with the administrative Law Judge about the bussing and my EMERGENT RELIEF WAS GRANTED! The grounds were that this district do not do their due diligence of re-evaluating the hazardous routes policy when stripping "courtesy bussing," even though in their updated transportation policy of April 2021 they said they would have. Therefore they stripped over a hundred students of their bus, who now have to walk along potentially hazardous routes. YOU STILL HAVE TIME TO FILE!!! You can do it online or certified mail tomorrow. Fill out only the emergent relief section and submit it by tomorrow so it arrives early next week to them, we only have until Nov 29th to contest legally.
I can help anyone tomorrow morning if you'd like, DM me. Good luck. Please do this, it doesn't take much time and the more families affected who send in Emergent Relief requests makes the district think twice before taking busses away. **
Lost "Courtesy" Busing in SOMA 2022
Hi All,
I'm creating this page so we can organize and share info or updates.
Hi all! I have an opportunity to meet with a lawyer from ACLU tomorrow, does anyone with legal research want to join me on this call? Please 😊 reach out to me tonight. Thank you!
*****MEETING TONIGHT ON BUSING****
They are saying the only people they are hearing backlash from are white families. We know this is hard for many families of color. I’ve heard and seen many stories of kids walking and biking from west Montrose area, with no crossing guards because they don’t start that early. Single moms Ubering and taking the train to Bolden and then Marshall because their kids are in different schools. Kids just missing school all together because parents can’t pick up at 2:30. They need to hear our voices so they’re aware of the hardships they’ve caused us and these kids!
Tonight!!!!!
Board meeting about buses is tonite

Hi all! Thank you for Joining! I wanted to create this page to share information and strategies that we've taken thus far, and also how we can start to work together on this. so far I have:
*Reached out to the ACLU
*Contacted Justice John Wallace (A Judge that oversees this III)
*Reached out to local Senators and Assembly people
*Reported our district to the Head of Transportation at the State Dept of Education
*Both South Orange and Maplewood PDs
*Sheema Collum
* And obviously- The Superintendent and Board of Ed numerous times.
At this point, I'd love to hear from anyone who has a lawyer contact who might be willing to work with all of us. I'm still waiting to hear back from the ACLU of NJ, but here's what my friend who works at ACLU in NY said we should be focusing on:
1)Lack of due process
2)Faulty measuring system. How do we challenge the district's mapping systems results that we know are inaccurate?
3)People most negatively affected are people of color; how is it sustainable and equitable for those that are walking, biking, and Ubering to school every day?
4)Safe passages to school
5)Possible temporary injunction to resume the buses; esp if they're operating at less than a quarter capacity, a reassessment of capacity is the fastest and less costly option.
Thank you! We are stronger together!
