Continuing Education at LaGuardia

Justin Bourque had nursing on his mind when he started in Continuing Education at LaGuardia’s Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) Program. His short-term goal was to get hands-on experience and earn important certifications such as , and before deciding what his next steps would be. Balancing the rigorous coursework with other life responsibilities was challenging, but Justin says, “it ended up being really rewarding once everything clicked.” He even earned the program’s “Vampire Award” for his skills in phlebotomy!

Justin is currently working as a at Tufts Medical Center in Massachusetts. There he supports healthcare providers and patients through intake, vitals assessment and day-to-day clinical care. He plans to continue building his experience in healthcare and return to school in order to advance his career, earn more money, and “make the world a better place.”

“The CCMA Program gave me the skills, confidence and direction I needed to move forward in healthcare,” says Justin.

Cada día, estudiantes en el programa del Equivalencia de Escuela Secundaria en español (HSE en Español) de Continuing Education at LaGuardia alcanzan sus metas al obtener su e inscribirse en la universidad o en un programa de formación profesional. El LaGuardia Foundation ACE Scholarship es una beca que cubre el 80% del costo del curso de HSE en Español, ayudando a los estudiantes a dar ese primer paso hacia el éxito educativo y profesional. También se ofrecen servicios de apoyo, que incluyen talleres de planificación universitaria y profesional, así como asistencia para inscribirse en el examen GED, el cual se puede tomar en LaGuardia Community College.

Continuing Education at LaGuardia is wrapping up its first cohort of the Patient Care Technician (PCT) program, a new clinical healthcare pathway at LaGuardia Community College. As a sister program to Continuing Education at LaGuardia’s Certified Clinical Medical Assistant program (students in both programs take the same four core courses), the PCT program prepares students with hands-on, direct patient care skills and a strong clinical foundation aligned with industry standards. Students will complete their PCT journey with an upcoming pinning ceremony to celebrate their hard work and the beginning of their healthcare careers!
