Today marks the birthday of Friedrich Frobel, credited with founding the first-ever kindergarten in Germany in 1837. Froebel was committed to early childhood education as an inroad to comprehensive educational and social reform.

In a time when children were expected to behave like "little adults," he also believed in the power of play!

Almost 200 years later, we have him and others like him to thank for the early childhood educational practices we now use regularly.
