My Sensei, Hanshi Tommy May has bowed out. He’s “headed to that Great Big Dojo in the sky” as per him. Here he will revisit all his Martial Arts family, family and thousands of friends. I’m sure he was greeted with a huge fan fare. Just as he lived. Osu. I will keep your name and traditions going strong.

Police Self Defense training is very specific. Police officers have to learn self defense for both armed and unarmed situations. They need to use a martial art that can subdue a criminal suspect without harming them. Grappling arts are essential as they can control the suspect without striking them....

Happy New Year. It's no surprise that I'm still training in the art of BJJ. I can feel the urge to want to teach. I do love sharing what works for me. One thing I truly believe is as with our DNA we are not the same. What works for me , may not work for you. It goes for spiritual beliefs, food, activities, politics, relationships and of course martial arts. We are our own masters with people who are willing to be taught by us. We get promoted based on someone's opinion of us. The rank and belts don't change who you are. Respect from others is the only thing that truly matters. There's truly not enough time to learn everything out there. So for now I'll stick with my Isshinryu Karate and Kore BJJ. It's like comfort food, I love being there and the people around me are kind and respectful. They do exercise Bushido.

Happy Thursday.... I really love the Martial art lifestyle. Participating at American Top Team in Danbury Under Professor Luigi Mondelli studying his KORE BJJ has been a blessing. He's one of those guys who looks at the whole picture. He not only follows the path he takes and incorporates new ones. We are offered Judo, MMA, Wrestling and now Practical Self Defense. Anyway I'm glad to be a part of his vision.
Hanshi Tommy May is in rehab and in great spirits. Maybe he will start some BJJ...

My upcoming next step in KORE BJJ at American Top Team CT.
It was an honor to speak to GM Kevin Thompson and express my personal gratitude I feel for a person who I admired who never looked over me. He always demonstrated what a true warrior should be. He influenced me and should me. No matter how great you think you are. There is someone way better. To see him and his families overwhelming support and true positive outlooks of overcoming this challenge. Is nothing short of inspiring. Once a Champion Always a Champion.

Hello and Happy Friday. I Hope this post finds you all well. As most of you have known I've been training in a whole new way. I went from a Tommy May's Academy of Self Defense Style of Issshinryu to an American Top Team KORE BJJ practicioner. All I can say in one word is WOW!!! In ISSHINRYU Karate we learned a vast amount of Mixed martial arts. Kabudo weopontry, Black belt Katas from Goju and Shorinryu. We where fortunete to learn Self Defense incorporating Jiu Jitsu. We've learned theres a diffenece between point fighting and Street fighting.
In KORE BJJ I've learned so far that theres a whole new world of combat after you land on the ground. Unlike my more traditional martial arts training. During sparring where as someone falls you hear "Yame" STOP. Then get up and start again. I have found my next level of Martial Art. I believe this is what ISSHINRYU truly stands for One Heart, One Mind. We are all masters of our own style and our lifes. What works for me may not work for you and visa versa. The Ground fighting has inspired me and has a hold on me. The family and team atmosphere I've been blessed with again. My new Martial Art Family at American Top Team in Danbury CT is well above par. My New Professor Luigi Mondelli is the one and only instructor to so many Champions. Ryan Quinn and Glover Teixeira are just two. Within our class I get to roll with current Champions who love to guide me in finding what may work for me. Never mind all the Everyday champions he has and is in the process of creating. He is sure creating a foundation for leaving a legacy in a big way.
