“I have been waiting for this day for years. Now it’s finally here.” 🎓

And here it is.

The cap.
The gown.
The diploma.
The people who helped him get here.

Carlos Taylor described his pathway to graduation as “a long journey.” But when he stood in front of the room to give his graduation speech, he wasn’t focused only on where he’d been.

He was thinking about where he’s going.

About becoming better.
About being there for his son.
About taking what he’s learned and making different choices moving forward.

That’s why moments like these matter.

A diploma recognizes what a student has completed, but it can also represent what is now possible.

Join Travis Hill NOLA for YJAM 2026: Rhythm of Resilience. This will be an evening celebrating the creativity, talent and potential of our students.

From artwork and music to STEM, YJAM gives our young people an opportunity to showcase what they’ve been learning and creating while reminding our community of something we see every day: our students are more than their circumstances.

Sometimes the most powerful measure of progress is being able to look at yourself and recognize how far you’ve come.

“I’m not the same person I once was. I’m better.”

Carlos Taylor said it himself on graduation day.

His diploma represents an academic achievement, but his words tell an even bigger story about growth, maturity and believing that your past does not have to determine what comes next.

Carlos is looking forward.

And we’re proud to celebrate this milestone with him. 💙

“I’m not the same person I once was. I’m better.” 🎓

Carlos Taylor waited years for this moment.

Standing in his cap and gown, Carlos didn’t just talk about earning a high school diploma. He talked about becoming a different version of himself.

He spoke about learning to get along with others. Wanting more for his life. And most importantly, wanting to be there for his son so that his child can learn from the mistakes Carlos says he made.

Carlos also took time to recognize the people who kept pushing him forward, thanking the educators who guided him when he was down, encouraged him and helped him discover a version of himself he says he “never knew existed.”

That’s what makes this diploma about so much more than completing school.

It’s evidence of growth. It’s another opportunity. And for Carlos, it’s a chance to build something different for the generation coming behind him.

Diploma earned. Future ahead. 🎓💙

Over the past few posts, you’ve heard Ronald Smith describe this moment in his own words.

You’ve heard him thank the family members who helped keep him focused, the teachers who supported his education and the people who helped him reach graduation day.

You’ve also heard where he wants to go next.

Ronald says the future has a lot in store for him, and he plans to continue learning, growing and helping build the family business he started with his siblings.

Today, though, we’re celebrating the milestone right in front of us.

Ronald Smith is a high school graduate.

Congratulations, Ronald, on earning your diploma and taking another step toward the future you’re building.

“School was one of the best things that ever happened to me.” 💙

Those words from Ronald Smith are a reminder of why access to education matters.

During his graduation speech, Ronald talked about falling in love with learning, discovering new things and developing skills he believes will help him in the future.

And that future is already on his mind.

Ronald plans to take what he’s learned and continue building a family business alongside his siblings.

Today, we celebrate the diploma.

Tomorrow, Ronald gets to decide what he builds with it. 🎓

When Ronald Smith stood in front of his family, teachers and supporters on graduation day, much of his message centered on one word: gratitude.

He thanked his parents, grandparents and siblings. He thanked the teachers who helped him along the way. And he reflected on what education has meant in his life.

But earning his diploma isn’t where Ronald’s vision ends.

He says the knowledge and skills he’s gained are preparing him for what’s next, including plans to continue building the family business he and his siblings started.

Congratulations, Ronald. Keep learning. Keep growing. And keep building. 💙🎓

Teamwork looks a little different when there are bowling shoes involved. 🎳💙

The Travis Hill NOLA team traded the classrooms and offices for the lanes at Fulton Alley for an afternoon of bowling, laughter, a little friendly competition and, most importantly, team building.

The work we do for our students takes a strong team, and moments like these give us an opportunity to connect, recharge and strengthen the relationships that help us show up even better for the young people we serve.

Because a team that works hard deserves to play hard, too! 🎳🙌🏾

P.S. We’re waaaaaay better at our day jobs than we are at bowling. 😝

He thought he might not get the chance to finish. Then he did. 🎓💙

This week, we’ve shared Travis Hill NOLA graduate Isaac Smith’s story from two perspectives — his own and his mother’s.

Isaac told us about learning to apply himself, watching his academic performance improve and realizing that graduation doesn’t mark the end of his ability to learn and grow.

His mother told us how hard she fought for this moment — and how much it meant to see her son receive another opportunity to finish his education.

Now, we’re simply celebrating what all of that work produced:

A high school graduate.

Isaac, this diploma represents what you’ve accomplished. What you choose to build from here is the next chapter.

Sometimes someone else believes in you until you’re ready to believe in yourself. 💙

For Isaac Smith, that circle included his family, teachers and the people who continued encouraging him to move forward.

At graduation, he made sure they knew it.

“Thank you to everybody who believed in me, even when I didn’t believe in myself.”

This is what support can looks like. It’s holding onto the possibility of who a young person can become while they learn to see it for themselves.

Today, Isaac has another reason to believe.

He’s a high school graduate. 🎓
