Read that again. đź’™

“My circumstances cannot define my future.”

For Jarick, those weren’t simply words in a graduation speech. They represented a decision he had already begun making.

He talked about choosing a different mindset. Waking up grateful. Staying focused. Believing in himself. And continuing toward graduation even when his circumstances made the finish line feel far away.

That is what possibility looks like.

At Travis Hill NOLA, we believe where a young person is today should never determine where they can go tomorrow.

Circumstances are part of the story. They don’t have to write the ending.

🎓 GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT | In His Own Words

“The path to this moment has not been easy.”

During our June graduation, Travis Hill NOLA graduate Jarick Bourgeois stood before his teachers, supporters and school community and shared what it took to reach this moment.

There were times he wanted to give up. But instead, Jarick says he made a choice to change his mindset, believe in himself and keep moving forward.

He also recognized the people who helped him along the way, thanking his teachers and school deputies for continuing to support him, even during the difficult moments.

And then he shared a message that captures exactly why we believe so deeply in this work:

“I realized that my circumstances cannot define my future.”

“I’m just proud of him.” 💙🎓

Yesterday, you heard from one of our June graduates as he reflected on his journey. Today, we hear from someone who has been watching that journey from a very different perspective — his mother, Carmisha Bledsoe.

For her, graduation day was about more than watching her son receive a diploma. It was the chance to sit beside him, hear others speak about the growth they’ve seen in him, and witness a milestone that had been a long time coming.

She described the moment in one word: overwhelming.

“Just hearing them talk about him… talk about the differences that he’s made… it’s very special.”

These are the moments that remind us why graduation matters far beyond the classroom. Behind every diploma is a student who made choices, did the work and kept moving forward — and often, a family celebrating every step alongside them.

The diploma belongs to the graduate. The moment belongs to everyone who helped them get there.

“Thank you… for being more than a school and more like a family.”

For this week’s , we’re going back to our June graduation and highlighting the words of one of our graduates.

He reflected on a journey that wasn’t always easy. He spoke about learning to trust others, becoming more comfortable connecting with people, and the teachers and classmates who helped make his experience one he’ll always remember.

His remarks are a reminder that education is about more than earning a diploma. It’s also about relationships, growth, belonging and having people who continue to believe in you along the way.

🎨 Sometimes learning looks like a paintbrush in your hand.

At Travis Hill NOLA, education is about more than academics. It’s also about creating opportunities for our students to express themselves, explore their creativity and find productive ways to process what they think and feel.

During art class at JJIC, students had the opportunity to slow down, put brush to canvas and let their creativity lead the way.

Art can create space for reflection, self-expression and connection. Experiences like these are an important part of educating and supporting the whole student.

Because every young person deserves opportunities to discover new interests, develop their voice and see themselves as more than their circumstances. 💙🎨

Creativity belongs in every classroom.

The goal this year? Raise the bar. đź’™

As Travis Hill NOLA begins a new school year, President & CEO Byron Goodwin is challenging the entire team to build on last year’s momentum. We are expecting more from our students and expecting more from ourselves as educators and leaders.

That means creating stronger learning environments, supporting one another through the challenging days, and remembering that we are stronger when we operate as one team with one mission.

This is our resilience year, and that looks like growing individually so we can become stronger collectively. Ultimately we want to create better opportunities for every student we serve.

New year. Higher expectations. One team. Let’s get to work.

Resilience isn’t something we simply talk about. It’s something we practice. 💙

As our Travis Hill NOLA team prepared for the new school year, professional development gave us an opportunity to focus not only on what we do, but on how we show up for one another and for our students.

Our Rhythm of Resilience centers six fundamentals: owning your growth, staying curious, building discipline, respecting people, operating with integrity and focusing on purpose.

These principles align with the values of responsibility, hope, integrity, good judgment and teamwork that we want reflected throughout our school community.

Because creating an environment where young people can recognize the possibilities in their futures begins with the adults in the room modeling what resilience, growth and excellence look like every day.

Resilient minds. Respectful hearts. Ready for tomorrow.

We’re BACK and the energy says it all! 💙📚👏🏾

The first day of school at Travis Hill NOLA’s OJC campus started with connection, encouragement and a reminder that every student who enters our school space has an opportunity to succeed.

Our teachers and staff welcomed students with a Welcome Circle, introducing themselves and setting the tone for the year by sharing our THN RIGHT values. These are the principles that guide how we learn, work and grow together.

One message stood out: Integrity means doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.

And what better way to start the year than with a little teamwork? 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

We’re so excited to have our students back. Our educators are ready, and looking forward to the possibilities ahead for the 2026–27 school year.

Welcome back, Travis Hill! đź’™

Mr. Gray questioned whether he was reaching his students. He considered giving up, but he kept showing up. And this year, he became our Teacher of the Year. 🏆

Congratulations to Mr. Eddie Gray, Travis Hill NOLA’s 25-26 Teacher of the Year!

Mr. Gray says the honor was unexpected and a motivation he’s carrying with him into the new school year. But President & CEO Byron Goodwin says the recognition reflects something he has watched develop year after year.

Teaching at Travis Hill requires educators who are willing to meet students where they are, push through challenges and remain committed even when the impact isn’t immediately visible.

Mr. Gray did exactly that, and the experience he once questioned has become “one of the most amazing experiences” of his teaching career.

We’re proud to celebrate an educator like Mr. Gray. 💙👏🏾

For the Reel cover/on-screen hook, I’d use “He Almost Gave Up. Then He Became Teacher of the Year.” That creates a much stronger reason to stop and watch than simply “Meet Our Teacher of the Year.”

New school year. Stronger team. Same shared commitment to our students. 💙📚

As we welcome our staff back for the 2026–27 school year, we started by investing in the people who show up every day for our students.

This year’s professional development included activities focused on collaboration, communication styles, problem-solving, and building stronger relationships across the Travis Hill NOLA team.

We encourage our educators to show up 100% authentically, be there for the students and give them your best.

We’re ready for 2026–27. Let’s make excellence the priority. 💙
