🎖️ Germany Had Fewer Than 2,000 Tigers. America Had 50,000 Shermans.

The Sherman had thinner armor. A weaker gun. German tank crews who faced it in North Africa gave it a grim nickname — "Ronson," after the lighter that "lights first time, every time."

Tank for tank, the Germans were right. A Sherman rarely beat a Tiger in a fair, one-on-one fight.

But America never built the Sherman to fight fair.

While Germany built fewer than 2,000 Tigers in the entire war, American factories produced roughly 50,000 Shermans — rolling off assembly lines in Michigan and Ohio faster than German crews could destroy them. Every Sherman fought alongside two or three others, backed by artillery and fighter planes that could strike a Tiger from above, where its armor offered no protection at all.

This is the true story of how a "worse" tank helped win the war in Europe — not by matching German engineering, but by making the comparison irrelevant. 🇺🇸
