Now serving as commanding officer of Marine Corps Base Hawai’i after more than 24 years as an officer in the United States Marine Corps, Colonel Stephen E. DeTrinis ’97 has been named Jesuit’s Distinguished Military Alumnus. The recognition is part of a series of honors leading up to this year’s Jesuit-Holy Cross Rivalry Game, a tradition DeTrinis remembers well from his own days as a Blue Jay. From freshman athletics to varsity football, the rivalry offered some of his earliest lessons in competition, brotherhood, and what it meant to represent Jesuit.

As Jesuit’s Distinguished Military Alumnus, DeTrinis represents the enduring reach of a Blue Jay formation and a call to serve his faith, family, Marines, and country while continuing to pursue the ideal first placed before him at Carrollton & Banks: to become a man for others.

DeTrinis will return to a rivalry that played an important role in his own years as a Blue Jay when he is honored at halftime of the Jesuit-Holy Cross Rivalry Game on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Tad Gormley Stadium.

A three-sport Blue Jay, All-State football player, Tulane letterman, and longtime leader in the New Orleans community, John P. “Jack” Laborde ’67 has been named Jesuit’s 2026 Legend of the Game. Laborde will be recognized as part of a series of alumni honors surrounding this year’s Jesuit-Holy Cross Rivalry Game, a tradition that holds a special place among his memories of Carrollton & Banks.

Nearly 60 years after he suited up for the Blue Jays, Laborde will once again represent Jesuit in a rivalry that helped shape some of his most lasting memories at Carrollton & Banks. Laborde will be honored as the 2026 Legend of the Game during the Jesuit-Holy Cross Rivalry Game on Friday, October 2, at Tad Gormley Stadium.

Ralph C. Cox Jr. ’64 has been named Jesuit High School’s 2026-27 Alumnus of the Year. This prestigious award is presented annually to an alumnus who embodies Jesuit’s mission through exceptional professional achievement, leadership, and dedicated service to Jesuit and the greater community. Cox will be honored during Alumni Weekend Mass and Reception on November 6 at Jesuit.

Jesuit’s president, Fr. John Brown, S.J., spoke to Cox’s worthiness, saying “Worldly success alone does not define the success of a Jesuit alumnus. It is putting that success at the service of others, glorifying God through his gifts and hard work, that makes Ralph Cox such an inspiring example for our students to look up to. Ralph Cox has paired achievement with character, generosity, and enduring loyalty to his alma mater and wider community. We are honored to recognize him as Jesuit’s Alumnus of the Year.”

Alumni and their spouses or guests are invited to Jesuit’s Alumni Weekend Mass & Reception where Cox will be honored on Friday, November 6, 2026. Attire is coat and tie. Registration is required.
