The Marching Band, Concert Band, and Symphonic Band perform at numerous school and civic events. Marching and Concert Assessments. In the fall, the Marching Band perf
orms at Crusader football games along with the St. Mary’s Dominican Debs Dance Team in the stadium during the game and on the field for halftime shows. The Marching Band invigorates Crusader spirit at school pep rallies, and the Concert Band lifts Crusader spirit at school-wide liturgies. You can find the Marching Band performing through the streets of the Greater New Orleans area in various parades during the festive Mardi Gras season. Marching Band members earn the opportunity to celebrate with a biennial trip to perform along Main St., U.S.A at Disney’s Magic Kingdom in Florida. The Symphonic and Concert Bands showcase their musicality at the annual Christmas concert and end-of-the-year Spring concert. Students additionally participate in the Solo & Ensemble Festival, in which they are assessed on an individual and/or small group basis. Students are encouraged and guided for auditioning for the All-State and District Honor Bands as well. The Pep Band performs at home basketball games during the spring. This group has a great time and helps boost the spirit of the “Conlin Crazies” at all games. The Stage Band specializes in jazz performance and improvisation. In addition to playing at formal Brother Martin events, this group also books events open to the general public. The Beginning Band is a great opportunity for those with little or no instrumental music experience. Students learn the skills they need to be able to participate in the advanced bands in just one year! Intermediate Band students participate in the Symphonic Band. The Band program utilizes SmartMusic, an on-line music practice tool, which fosters good practice techniques and enables the directors to assess students’ musical progress. Other forms of technology are utilized to further aid in the understanding of music theory and creativity.
